Hunter modernized clerk's office
To the Editor,

I have known Judy Hunter and her family for approximately 40 years. Prior to serving as Mrs. Hunter's Deputy Steuben County clerk for seven years, I was employed as a Paralegal for the Steuben County District Attorney's office for 22 years, and thus had a good knowledge of the County Clerk's office.

I find Mrs. Hunter to be a dedicated, knowledgeable and honest person who brings these assets to her job as Steuben County clerk. As County Clerk, Mrs. Hunter manages not only the County Clerk's Office, but also the New York State Department of Motor Vehicle offices, altogether totaling 23 employees. Many of these people have been employed in their positions for 7 to 25 years. Numerous employees who resigned their positions in the County Clerk's office, some for other county positions, have requested to return to the County Clerk's office to work for Mrs. Hunter.

Mrs. Hunter has successfully taken the Steuben County Clerk's Office from the 19th Century to the 21st century during her 12 years as County Clerk. Mrs. Hunter has been successful in obtaining permission from the Steuben County Legislators and the County Administrator to increase her staff, which was necessary to computerize and image documents. These changes were caused by New York State mandates for both real estate document processing and Supreme and County Court document processing. In accomplishing the upgrading, the County Clerk's office has obtained essential financial accountability as well as enhanced accuracy and public accessibility to records.

Mrs. Hunter's experience is needed to continue the progress being made in the County Clerk's Office and the Department of Motor Vehicle offices that directly benefits Steuben County and it's residents.
