DAR celebrates Constitution Week

HAMMONDSPORT - The Gu-Ya-No-Ga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution celebrated Constitution Week last week with an exhibition of the "Four Freedoms" on the windows of Dr. Sam Pennise's dental office in the Village of Hammondsport.

The celebration included a visit from Curtiss School 5th graders, who gathered with DAR members on the village square and received packets containing literature about historical US documents, brochures and American flags.

Sept. 17- 23 was celebrated as Constitution Week across the country. The mayors, supervisors and legislatures all proclaimed the seven days as Constitution Week in their communities of: Penn Yan, the Yates County Legislature, the Town of Dundee, the Town of Jerusalem, the Town of Urbana, the Town of Hammondsport, the Town of Prattsburgh and the Town of Pulteney, at the request of the Gu-Ya-No-Ga Chapter.

"This is the most powerful and lasting document in our history and this does help people be more aware of its history," said Gu-Ya-No-Ga Regent Allison Rice. She added public schools also recognize the week with focused classes on Constitutional history.
