Judge erred in demonsrators' trial I remain perplexed as to how and why prospective jurors' automobile bumper stickers would be somehow relevant or pertinent to a court case involving trespassing. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the obvious rationale would seem to be an attempt to purge the roster of antiwar sentiments… a curious "stacking of the deck" by a supposedly impartial judge, especially when [conversely] the defendants were repeatedly admonished that the entire issue of "the war" was irrelevant and inadmissible. I can appreciate the prosecution's fear of such a defense; indeed, the issue of "the war" was the whole reason for the August. 6th incident at Rep. Kuhl's office and it seems unfair that a judge would so blatantly side with the prosecution… reminiscent of an "Alice in Wonderland" absurdity. Also, I would like someone to explain how and why it is not an obstruction of justice when a judge purposely coerces and misleads a jury by demanding that they [must] base their verdict ONLY upon "the law," thereby denying them of their time honored duty and obligation to judge the validity and relevance of the law itself as it pertains to any given situation. I realize these are potentially damming charges against an honored and respected individual; however, undermining the judicial system with such subtle yet insidious obfuscations is a sure harbinger of the eventual demise of this once great Republic. Those that choose to condone and abet the present illegal and immoral campaign of Machiavellian militarism must be held accountable. Yes, I have a statement on the rear of my vehicle, it reads: "Guess again, the real global "war" is on civil liberties." One last question: Does Mr. Kuhl face jail time for his contemptuous failure to heed a Court subpoena? Larry D. Cook Bath |
