HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS • What wonderful weather we were given the entire weekend of the Glenn H. Curtiss Seaplane Fly-In. With our home just 1 and a quarter miles down the West Lake Road, we enjoyed sitting out on our porch just about all the time, I confess, to watch the seaplanes come and go! How much my mother, the late Esther Gerow Hooker, would have enjoyed it. She grew up with Curtiss and was thrilled with all his ability of creating the flying machine!!! She was at at his first public announ cement of flight with many others! She was also at his funeral at the Pleasant Valley Cemetary with me for we lived up by the cemetary and I was used to walking down the back field to the gravesites, visiting our started crying and could not stop! It was my first time of knowing or realizing how famous he had become! Never, ever forgot it! • Today, Sunday the 30th of September the Bath,Hammondsport Bocce Group will be meeting for supper at the home of Hope Hereford on the West Lake Road at 5:00pm. If the night is a warm clear night, Ms Hereford cordially invites the group to come down around 4:00pm to enjoy the outdoors and the lake. On Thursday, October 4, the group will be enjoying dinner at the Pleasant Valley Inn, to officially close the Bocce Ball play. However, although several members of the group winter in warmer climates, the others still here year School there is a 6:30pm PTO meeting in the high school cafeteria for parents/ teachers. O n Thursday, October 4 there is an Alfred minivisit for seniors. and on Friday the 5th, there is early dismissal. • The Thursday Nighters, with Janny Koster, president, will be meeting in the Main Street Hammondsport Central Scholl cafeteria at 6:30pm, October 4. Members are asked to bring a dish to pass, and their own table service. The program of the evening will be a visit by the 'Port's former business man, WW2 Airman Richard Falvey. • The Hammondsport Farmers' Market held at the Citizen Hose Firemen Field from • The well-known Wineglass Marathon is being held today, September 30. Up in Bath Police Chief David Rouse is making preparations including necessary parking restrictions on certain streets on which the marathon goes. One will see temporary NO PARKING along the north side of West Steuben and West Morris Streets and on both sides of East Steuben. Bath Police will not allow parking at meters on both sides of West Steuben and the north side of East Steuben. Such restrictions will be over at the end of Wineglass activities! Church news: • St. Gabriel's Catholic: Religious Educatioon classes Sermon and Sue Morris; Grade 4: Patty Shippee; Grades 5, 6: Bob Matthewson. The church is extremely grateful for the gift of teaching by these people who share so generously. Forum Meeting meets after the 11:00am Mass Sunday, the 30th. All church members are members of the Forum so please come and take part! • St. James: 9:00am Holy Eucharist and Sunday School.
