Morrell O. "Bunk" Watkins, Jr.
CAMPBELL - Morrell O. "Bunk" Watkins Jr., age 80, of Campbell, went to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family on Monday, Sept. 24. He was born March 2, 1927 in Woodhull, the son of Morrell A. and Vinnie Taft Watkins.
Bunk was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother and all around good man. He was happily married to Patricia (Frawley) Watkins for 50 glorious years. She predeceased him April of 2000.
He is survived by his daugter: Sherry A. Watkins of Campbell; two sons: Thomas (Judy) of Campbell, and Randy (Deborah) Watkins of Tyrone; grandchildren: Julia and John Rodney; stepgrandchildren: Laura and Jeff LoVette; great-grandchildren: DaisyMay and Brett Watkins; one sister: June (Roy) Crans of Woodhull; two brothers, Eldred (Dorothy) and Duane (Joan) Watkins, both of Woodhull; brother-in-law: Irving Dickerson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his son, Rodney in 1994, his brother, Harold and his sister, Marguerite Dickerson. After he lost the love of his life, a new love came into his life, Gladys Stephens. Together they shared many happy times.
"Bunk" was a lathe operator at the Ingersoll-Rand for almost 44 years. He retired in 1989. He was a member of the Thurston Christian Church and the Campbell Methodist Church . He spent many hours in his workshop building windmills for all of his children and for Gladys. He could fix almost anything. He built his family home, worked on fixing cars, gocarts, woodworking, metalworking, gardening and inventing ways to fix almost anything. Bunk was always busy doing something. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours were held Friday, Sept. 28, from 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1-3 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning where the funeral was held Saturday at 3 p.m. with Pastor David Peck officiating. Burial followed in Hope Cemetery of Campbell.
