CAMERON - Jack D. Smith,

73, of the Swale

Road, entered into rest Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Corning Hospital following a short illness.

Jack was born Nov. 23, 1933 in the town of Cameron, to Herbert and Flora (Mapes) Smith. On Sept. 17, 1955, in the town of Cameron, he married Mary Jane Nolton, who survives.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond and Jesse Smith; and one sister, June Kemp.

Jack was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1953 to 1961, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was a life long resident of Cameron and had worked in signaling maintenance for the former Erie, Erie/Lackawanna railroads and retiring from Conrail. He also worked his farm on the Swale Road, raising beef cattle and pigs. He was a former Cameron Town Supervisor and had also served on the Cameron Town Board. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends. He was also a member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Mary Smith of Cameron, he is survived by three sons, Edwin Smith, David (Virginia) Smith and Adam Smith, all of Cameron; two daughters, Bonnie Smith and Catherine (Kenneth) Monroy, all of Cameron; one brother, Herbert (Irene) Smith, Jr. of Cameron; sisters, Dorothy Yarka of Cameron and Beverly (Fred) Conklin of Addison; two sisters-inlaw, Norma Smith and Helen Smith, both of Cameron; a brother-inlaw, Pete Kemp of Addison; eight grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a Funeral Service was held Monday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors was held in the Lower Swale Cemetery, Town of Cameron.
