Teen sentenced in teacher attack BATH - An 18-year-old former Avoca Central School student pleaded guilty Monday, Oct. 1, in Steuben County Court to assaulting a gym teacher in May. Cristapher Zeltwanger was sentenced to six months in jail and six month s of electronic home monitoring for attacking teacher Dan Mead. The student attacked Mead while he awaited a disciplinary meeting with school officials. Zeltwanger was being disciplined after Mead caught him smoking on school property, authorities said. Mead was treated for bumps and bruises. The May 2 attack forced officials to lock down the school for approximately an hour. Zeltwanger was initially charged with felony assault and two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief. The assault charge carried a maximum of seven years in state prison. |
