HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS • Friday/Saturday, October l2,l3 was Homecoming for Hammondsport Central School. Friday, the 12th saw the homecoming parade at 5- 30 p.m. The Legion's Hot Dog Tent, from 5-7 p.m.; PTO Children's Games, 6 p.m. Varsity Soccer Game under light 6:30 p.m.; Saturday the l3th started with Modified Volleyball at 9 a.m.; Boys' and Girls' Modified Soccer at 9:30 a.m.; JV Volleyball, 10:30 a.m.; Boys' & Girls' JV Soccer, l2 p.m.; Varsity Volleyball,12 a.m.; Girls' Varsity Soccer, 2 p.m. and a Homecoming Dance at 8 p.m. At Hammondsport Central School Oct. 22, Sophomore Cheesecake sales begin; GJVS @ Oct. 23: GMS @CS; BJVS @County Tournament; Oct 24:GJVS @ County T. Oct. 25:BJVS @ C.T.; Oct. 26: Drama Club Performance; CC Counties at Addison. Oct. 27: ACT EXAM; Drama Club Performance; BMS & GMS @CS; Curtiss Halloween Dance, 7 p.m.; Oct.29: Freshman trip to VA and County Office Bldg. BMS (H). The deadline for the Wall of Fame applications is December 31, 2007 to be considered for 2008. For parents of pre-school children: Hammondsport Central School is investigating the possibility of beginning a Pre-Kindergarten program in the district. We need to know how many eligible children are currently in this district. Anyone who has a child turning 4 prior to Dec. l, 2008, the child will be eligible for this Pre-K program. To help us with our initial planning, please contact Mrs. Groves at the Primary Office 569-5233 Ext. 5233 giving your child's name and contact information. We need to know we have a large enough interested population to pursue the planning further! • The Parent Liaison Group has initiated a new program called TAB-"Take a Book" in the Junior/Senior High School. Purpose of the program? To encourage reading in grades 7-12. The Committe has done well is collecting books by such authors as Sarah Dessen, Gary Paulsen, Paula Danziger, John Grisham, JK Rowling, SE Hinton, J.R.R. Tolkien, and more can be found in a bookcase in the student lounge area. They are encourged to take a book from there, read it, and then share it with someone else, or return it and take another. Students, please keep in mind that you can find hundreds of books in the Hammondsport Central School Library, as well as taking advantage of InterLibrary Loan, if there is a book they want to read that the TAB program doesn't provide. • Last weekend at the Grape/Pumpkin Festival on the Town Square, in the Bake Off Contest #l prize winner was Joan Akins of Browers for her Pumpkin Cookies; #2 Pam Carlson for her Chocolate Pumpkin Zucchini Cake; #3 Lucile Walbridge for her Pumpin Cake. In the Scarecrow Best of Show which brought in ll9 votes-It was a tie between Pleasant Valley Floral #6 squarecrow with a flower pot head and WVIN #14 DJ Vin; Most Unique-from Mahogany Butterfly,#12 Lucy Stomping Grapes (Lucille Ball). At the Blue Heron Cafe (which is new this year) was Life Music on their terrace every Saturday in October with the last one held the 28, Rochester Brass and Electric: 12:30-4:30 p.m. • The Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is offering fresh Georgia Pecans delivered the first week in Nov. for holiday baking and gift-giving. Saturday, October l3, 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. The Auxiliary held their "Harvest Heart beat for Ira, featuring a wide variety of Finger Lake vendors with food offered all day and Free Face Painting for kids. AII monies earned at both will/are being used for good by the Auxiary for Davenport & Taylor. • Yoga classes are being offered at St. Gabriel's Church twice a week in its McGill Hall, Shethar and Church, basement. l0:30 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. No Saturday classes. Beginners welcome. Wear loose clothing and bring an exercise matt and blanket. Phone 346-1961 for more information. • The Hammondsport DPW started their annual leaf pickup Oct. l8 and it goes on through Nov. 21. All they ask is that leaves be placed at between the curb and sidewalk, not in the street. Please do not mix any twigs or branches or anything else with the leaves.
