Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William St., Bath. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 12. Village of Bath Housing Authority Board The Village of Bath Housing Authority Board will meet at 4 p.m. the forth Monday of every month (except where a Holiday occurs, then it will be held the week before.) Dormann Library Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will meet the second Monday of every month except where a holiday occurs then it will be the following Monday. Victims ofDomestic Violence Women's Support Group Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group will meet from 6-7 p.m. Thursday evenings. The next meeting will be held Oct. 25. Wine Country Toastmasters Wine Country Toastmasters will beet the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 7-8:30 p.m. at the County Health Care Facility, Co. Rte. 113, Bath. For more information call 377-4143 or 776-4362. Special Education Advocacy Training The Advocacy Center announces Lay Advocacy Training for parents of children with developmental disabilities. The training will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Thursdays from Oct.-Nov. 15 in Bath. There is no fee for the training. Parents who complete this training may be asked to assist other families with advocacy issues in the year following the training. The training prepares parents to better advocate for their own children and to assist other parents in their area with educational advocacy. STAR rebate checks New Yorkers are eligible for realy property tax relief in the form of a 2007 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program Check. This year's rebate is based not only on your property tax burden but also on your income level. Homeowners who receive the basic STAR exemption should have received a letter notifying them of the need to apply and provide income information to receive this year's rebate check. Applications are due by Nov. 30. The fastest way to receive the check is to apply online at www.nystax.gov. Information that was sent in the mail will be needed to complete an application. Senior citizens who are property owners and receive an enhanced STAR exemption on their 2007-2008 tax bil ldo not need to fill out an application and will receive a rebate check automatically. Educational seminar The Alheimer's Association and Steuben County Office for the Aging will present an educational seminar from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Wayland Library, 101 West Naples St., Wayland. Professional caregivers please call for information regarding offerings that may be of interest to you. Glenn H. Curtiss Museum display "A Splash of Color: Quilts of the Finger Lakes." An exhibit of over 70 quilts in contemporary, traditional, modern and art styles will be on display from Sept. through Nov. 4, at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. Both hand stitch and machine techniques are represented. Participants include the Park Patches Quilt Guild of Hornell, the Keuka Quilters of Hammondsport, and Lake Country Patchwork Quilters of Hammondsport. Open from 9-5, Mon-Sat, and 10-5 on Sunday, the Curtiss Museum is located at 8419 State Route 54, Hammondsport. The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Howard Public Library. Halloween events • The Towlesville Grange will hold a Halloween Party at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Grange. Games, free refreshments and costume judging will be available. Children must be accompanied by an adult. • The annual Halloween party will be held at the Dormann Library, Tues., Oct. 30 from 6-7 p.m. The Mad Hatters will entertain with stories. There will be crafts and contests. Halloween safety will be reviewed. Dress in costume and join us for a fun evening. Healthy treats will be provided. The program will be sponsored by the Friends of the Dormann Library. • The Dormann Library will hold a "Spooky Stories from Around the World" program from 2-3:30 p.m. Oct. 24. Southern Tier All Star Jazz Band The Southern Tier All Star Jazz Band will perform from 2-5 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Bath American Legion, 14 W. William St., Bath (behind the Post Office.) Avoca Historical Society The Avoca Historical Society is finished and have many interesting displays and a great deal of information to offer. They always looking for donations of itmes that have anyting to do with Avoca and Wallace. The museum at 5 Grisold St. is now open every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon, and by appointment. Drop off site is from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Bath Save-A-Lot. McGruff the Crime Dog will make an appearance from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 3 at Pulteney Park. Funds are to be used for annual activities for the community, such as ; Children's Christmas Party, Village of Bath Christmas decorating contest, Summer community picnic and Spring clean pizza party. Holiday Bazaar and luncheon The St. James Episcopal Church will hold their annual Holiday Bazaar and luncheon from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 3 at the church, corner of Lake and Main Street. Cuba Cheese, baked goods, james, pi c kles, Christmas decorations, needle work, crafts, gift sets, handmade soaps, mission jewelry, take home supper of homemade soup and chili with breadsticks as well as many other items will be available. A silent auction and white elephant table will also be held. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The menu consists of clam chowder with homemade bread, chilie, assorted sandwiches, wraps and beverages. Small Business help in Schuyler County Corning Community College's Small Business Development Center, the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce and SCOPED are partnering to offer free and confidential counseling to start-up, home-based and existing businesses in Schuyler County. Help is available on business plans, loan requirements, cash flow projections, record keeping, start-up steps, expansion, marketing and women/minority certification.
