Addison teacher's fate still uncertain ADDISON - Anthony Fazzary's future with the Addison school district is still up in the air. Addison Superintendent Betsy Stiker said she and the school board are working with the Addison Teachers Association to decide Fazzary's future. Fazzary, 43, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor public lewdness Monday, Oct. 22, in Erwin Town Court. Fazzary was charged in July after being caught masturbating in his car in the Gang Mills Wal-Mart parking lot. Shortly before the beginning of the school year, the district reassigned Fazzary, who had been a physical education teacher at Tuscarora Elementary School. In August, many parents in the district said they would not let their children start school if Fazzary was allowed to teach. Stiker said Fazzary has no contact with students in his new assignment. "His status has not changed," Stiker said. "He's on administrative assignment. Because of the process, I can't make any other comments." Stiker said she reported the charge against Fazzary to the New York State Education Department as soon as she became aware of it. Fazzary is not only at risk of losing his job because of his guilty plea, but also losing his teaching certification. According to the New York State United Teachers union, a teacher's certificate may be revoked by the state for conviction of a crime or an act indicating a lack of good moral character. By law, a hearing is required before the certificate can be revoked. |
