HAMMONDSPORT HAPPENINGS

• Good morning! If you did not remember that today, the 4th of Nov. is the day to fall back one hour, hurry and set your clocks back an hour on this date for the very first time.

• Thursday Nighters met Nov. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church for a covered dish dinner each bringing a dish to pass. Following the meal, there was a video on Franklin Graham's several year old Christmas outreach project which gives Americans the chance to send shoeboxes of gifts and necessities to poor children throughtout the world. Last year alone this organization helped distribute more than 7 million shoeboxes. Franklin Graham is a son of Billy Graham. Janny Koster, this year's president of the Thursday Nighter's was hostess and is a member of the Presbytarian Church.

• Woman's Club meets Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Barbara Brayer. Assisting her with hostessing: Nan Anderson and Donna McIntire. The Rev. Leroy Mast will speak on Mennonites and Amish Differences.

• Town of Urbana Compost area at the Town Barn, Rt 54 opens the second Saturday monthly: 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 1, 2007-March 8, 2008.

• Just a little remembrace about a very special holiday for kids, mostly-like it or not! Trick or Treat in the Town of Pulteney was Wednesday the 31st from 6-8 p.m. Annual Halloween party for children from Pulteney was Saturday, the 27th from 1-3 p.m. at the Firehouse, sponsored by the Pulteney Ladies Auxiliary.

(For KIDS) The Prattsburgh Town Board designated Wed.,the 31th as the official "Trick or Treat" night with hours from 6-8 p.m.

(For KIDS) Hammondsport Community Services held a Hammondsport Halloween Happening on Halloween with "Trick or Treat" from 6-7 p.m. and then all were invited to meet at the Curtiss School Gym at 7:15 p.m. for an indoor parade! There were costume prizes and refreshments!

(FOR KIDS) And, up in Bath last Saturday the 27th from 8-11 p.m., a Halloween Dance was held at St. Mary's Hall 50-50, snacks and door prizes sponsored by Kinship Pioneer Group.

(FOR ADULTS - and KIDS accompanied by adults) You know, don't you, that nationally Halloween has become the second most decorated holiday next to Chrismas!

• October was National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and in our village at Lake Country Patchwork, located in the historic Opera House, Lake Street, four quilts were donated to the cause thanks to all who participated in Quilt Pink Day!

Church news:

• St. Gabriel's Catholic: Maureen O'Neill, Pastoral Administrator: Rev. Peter Anglaaere, Sacramental. Mass Schdule: Saturdays 5:30 p.m.; Sundays 11 a.m.

St. Gabriel's Youth Group, composed of young people in grades 6-12 have made their final plans for the National Catholic Youth Conference for Nov. 8-10.

ne of the many services of the Diocese of Rochester which the local church helps fund is Young Adult Ministry. Through

the Department of Evangelization and Catechesis young adults in their late teens, twenties, thirties are supported in their faith journey through sharing the Word of God and deepening their trust in prayer and sacrament. The goals are to connect with a peer community where gifts can be recognized, encouraged, and supported! More later.

Yesterday, Nov. 3: Annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a

White Elephant

Table and Silent Auction, Christmas Decorations, Knitted, Crocheted Items, Fleece Hats, Mittens, Throws, Pullovers, Ponchos, Needlework, Table Runners and Placemats, Gifts, Food Baskets; Baked Goods, Candies, Jams,etc. Also Take- Out Supper of Homemade Soup or Chili with breadsticks, featuring Clam Chowder & Homemade bread, Assorted Sandwiches.

• First United Methodist Church: The Rev. Paul Rowley, Minister.8:30 a.m. Service: 9:45 -10:45 a.m.- Sunday School; 11 a.m. Service.

On the 5th Sunday of the month, the two services are combined with a 10 a.m. service for all.

Thanks go to Ruth Barry for agreeing to organize the coffee hours scheduled for Sundays when the church has combined services or wishes to celebrate special times or holidays.

These are great times to meet friends who attend a different service. Ruth appreciates anyone who can provide food, help serve and/or clean up, or give money to cover expenses for purchased items. Please call her at 569-2775 or put a note in her mail box if you are able to assist in any way - and thanks for doing so!

The church is getting together a mission team to help with continuing recovery efforts in Mississippi between Feb. 16- 23,08. Working with

the state Conference of the United Methodist Church and UMCOR, a group of at l0 members is expected in Gulfport at Camp Love at that time. Also needed are 5 more the week of February 24-March 1. Hopefully 5 members of the team will be interested in volunteering for 2 weeks! These dates/numbers can be finely tuned according to the wishes of the majority of the group. The Church is looking for a few people with "skill sets" to get together. What is needed: electric, plumbing, roofing, flooring/carpeting, door installation, siding skills,etc.

"Weekend Warriors" also needed to paint and hang sheetrock/dry wall, insulate, clean up,etc. Each mission team will be asked to provide assistance with preparing meals. The team needs to be formed ASAP. For those going, airline reservations should be booked soon. churches: Pulteney at 9:30 +

p.m.; Hammondsport at 11 a.m. Bible Study Thursdays for both churches in Pulteney. At the Port Church there is Bible Study for adults Sundays at 10 a.m. led by Jim Walling.
