William (Bill) Carter
William (Bill) Carter, 77, of Taylor Health Center, Bath, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25 with his loving daughter by his side, after bravely battling a short illness at Ira Davenport Hospital in Bath.
He was blessed to have had his family here with him last week giving him loving comfort and support.
He was born Oct. 10, 1930 in Middlesex England, son of George J. Carter and Thomasina (Banyard) Carter. He served in the Merchant Marines as a young adult, after coming to the States he served in the US Army until 1954. He married Dorothy Sippel in 1952, who predeceased him in 1992.
They lived most of their lives in California before moving to New York and settling in N. Cohocton where they opened the Pig & Whistle Café. Bill was a great cook and had a great love for food.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia (Jake) Miller of Lake Elsinore, California; loving children, William Jr. (Shelly) Carter of Escondido, California, Patricia (Jody) Graham of Campbell, Brenda (Mark) Sabo of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Barbara (David) Womack of Biloxi, Mississippi, Pamela (Robert) Kutterhoff of Biloxi, Mississippi; loving grandchildren, Brandi (Mark) LaBarr, Crystal (Craig) Ayers, Courtney (Kris) Scott, Jason Covell, Annie Covell, Jimmy Covell, Trisha (Michael) Kinman, Will, Monica and Ashley Carter, Katelyn Read, Chrissy Gallagher, Bucky Ripperger, Bobby and Cathy Kutterhoff; 26 loving great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews in California; extended family Robert & Eva Graham of Campbell and Nancy and Mike Bartoo of Campbell; also special friends Dorothy Yost and Ezra Divens and all the Caregivers at Taylor Health Center.
Calling hours will be held Nov. 5 at St. Mary's Church, Bath at 6 p.m. with a Mass being held at 7 p.m.
