Urbana board deserves to stay in office

I've heard and read a lot of half truths and misinformation about the current Urbana Town Board and I am writing to tell everyone that I think they have done a great job for our community and I would like to see them remain in office for another term.

Supervisor Dick Gardiner is available nearly every day in his town office and puts in more hours than any other "part time" supervisor we have ever had. In addition he has spent many hours in training sessions to keep up to date on the changing rules and regulations and legal matters pertaining to townships. Besides his routine councilman duties, John Webster spends numerous hours planning and coordinating the summer recreation program that is so beneficial to our youth. Tom Chadwick has done so much in making Depot Park the beautiful spot it is and spends hours of his own time and equipment keeping it that way. Will a new councilman chase the geese away each morning as Tom has? As an elected councilman, Tom also serves as Chairman of Keuka Watershed Improvement Cooperative (KWIC) and spends many hours helping to keep our lake clean. A change in leadership could be detrimental. I wonder if the proposed opponents are willing to submit as much time investment as the present council has.

The new Town Hall is a good example of our incumbent Town Board planning for the future needs of our community. The building is in a convenient location on a well traveled road within the township. It will be an impressive introduction to the town of Urbana with plenty of parking area. It is all paid for with savings and interest earned over the years. Yes, it was savings from OUR tax money --- it's OUR Town Hall where OUR business is conducted and it would cost more of OUR tax money if we had to borrow to build it. We have every right to be proud of OUR new building.

These are just a few of the reasons why I am exercising my right to write in their names on the Nov. 6 ballot for the offices they currently hold and I encourage others to also do so.
