Legion Auxiliary The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William St., Bath. The next meeting will be held on Nov. 12. Communication problems? The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Village of Bath Housing Authority Board The Village of Bath Housing Authority Board will meet at 4 p.m. the forth Monday of every month (except where a Holiday occurs, then it will be held the week before.) Dormann Library Board of Trustees The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will meet the second Monday of every month except where a holiday occurs then it will be the following Monday. They will hold their next monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Empire Room of the Library Building, 101 W. Morris St., Bath. Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group Victims of Domestic Violence Women's Support Group will meet from 6-7 p.m. Thursday evenings. The next meeting will be held Nov. 15. Wine Country Toastmasters Wine Country Toastmasters will beet the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 7-8:30 p.m. at the County Health Care Facility, Co. Rte. 113, Bath. Special Education Advocacy Training The Advocacy Center announces Lay Advocacy Training for parents of children with developmental disabilities. The training will be held from 10:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Thursdays from Oct.- Nov. 15 in Bath. There is no fee for the training. Parents who complete this training may be asked to assist other families with advocacy issues in the year following the training. The training prepares parents to better advocate for their own children and to assist other parents in their area with educational advocacy. STAR rebate checks New Yorkers are eligible for realy property tax relief in the form of a 2007 Middle Class STAR Rebate Program Check. This year's rebate is based not only on your property tax burden but also on your income level. Homeowners who receive the basic STAR exemption should have received a letter notifying them of the need to apply and provide income information to receive this year's rebate check. Applications are due by Nov. 30. The fastest way to receive the check is to apply online at www.nystax.gov. Information that was sent in the mail will be needed to complete an application. Senior citizens who are property owners and receive an enhanced STAR exemption on their 2007-2008 tax bil ldo not need to fill out an application and will receive a rebate check automatically. "Wizard of Oz" The performance, "Wizard of Oz" will be presented by The Lake Country Players at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Watkins Glen High School Auditorium, 12th Street, Watkins Glen. Small Business help in Schuyler County Corning Community College's Small Business Development Center, the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce and SCOPED are partnering to offer free and confidential counseling to start-up, home-based and existing businesses in Schuyler County. Help is available on business plans, loan requirements, cash flow projections, record keeping, start-up steps, expansion, marketing and women/minority certification. Avoca Historical Society The Avoca Historical Society is finished and have many interesting displays and a great deal of information to offer. They always looking for donations of items that have anyting to do with Avoca and Wallace. The museum at 5 Grisold St. is now open every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., every 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon, and by appointment. Bazaar The St. Thomas Episcopal Church will hold a bazaar from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 16 and Nov. 17 at the church, Liberty St., Bath. A varied menu will be served for the luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homemade soups and made to order sandwiches and wraps will be prepared. Delicious pies and cakes will also be available. A takeout can be arranged for those who would like it. Cuba Cheese, Corning Market Street Ground Coffee, Bubba Chips will be sold along with an array of baked goods, jams and jellies to buy. Dormann Library events • The Dormann Library will celebrate Children's Book Week with an afternoon with Dr. Seuss. From 2-3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16. Children ages 3 and up are invited to an afternoon of fun with Dr Seuss. Mr. Ken Anderson will be the guest, reading The Cat in the Hat. There will also be games, crafts, surprises, and a snack. All books will be half price. Paper backs will be sold by the bag. All proceeds go for programs and library materials for the library. This is an opportunity for readers to stock up on their supply of winter reading, and visit the new library cafe, Chapters, while they are there. Everyone is invited to come. Chili Cook-Off & Bodacious Bake-Off A Chili Cook-Off & Badacious Bake-Off will be held on Nov. 10 at Hammondsport Central School. The event is open to all members of the Finger Lakes Communities. Entry fee is $10 for initial entry, $5 for each additional entry by the same person. $3 per peson at the door for Chili tasting. Chili categories: red, gree, wild game, vegetarian and fiery hot chili. Bake-off pie categories: fruit, cream or candy/other; cookie categories: filled, plain or bar cookies. The great pumpkin category, any recipe that includes pumpkin may be entered in an attempt to win the title of "Favorite Pumpkin Recipe." Blue, red and honorable mention awards in each category plus overall crowd favorite chili (voted on during tasting sesson.) All proceeds benefit the Hammondsport Central School Class of 2011. Prattsburgh Library events The annual Gingerbread contest will open Nov. 27, entries are needed at the library no later than 11 a.m. Dec. 1. Call 324-4891 or 776-7813 to reserve a seat by Nov. 9 FSA accepting emergency loan applications Steuben County has been declared eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA), formerly Famers Home Administration, disaster emergency loan assistance effective Oct. 12, 2007 due to damages and losses caused by drought which occured May 1, 2007 and continuing. Family farmers who have suffered physical losses and/or the losses of at least 30 percent of their production due to the drought may be eligible for FSA loans. Proceeds from crop insurance and any FSA programs are taken into account when determining eligibility for prodution losses. Losses must be supported with documented records. Under the FSA Emergency Loan Programs farmers may be eligible for production loss loans of up to 100 percent of their actual losses, or the operating loan amount needed to continue in business, or a maximum principal balance outstanding of $500,000, whichever is less. Farmers must be unable to obtain credit from private commercial lenders. The interest rate on Emergency Loans is 3.75% Applicaton for loans under this emergency designation will be accepted until June 12, 2008. The FSA office is located at 415 W. Morris St., Bath, 776-7398. Snow Removal Ordinance Bath Police Chief David K. Rouse wants to remind Village of Bath residents that from Nov. 1-April 1, between the hours of 2-6 a.m., the Village of Bath's Snow Removal Ordinance is in effect. During those hours, parking is prohibited on all streets within the Village. Violators will receive a $25 parking ticket and depending on weather conditions, the vehicle may be towed at the owner's expense. With the winter season approaching, Village of Bath residents are further reminded to refrain from depositing snow from driveways on Village Streets. Section 1219 of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law prohibits persons from placing snow on highways. Village Police will ticket anyone violating this law. Bath Neighborhood Watch Group The Bath Neighborhood Watch Group will meet the third Wednesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Bath Municipal Building. The next meeting will be held Nov. 21. Spaghetti dinner The Wayne Baptist Church will hold a spaghetti dinner at 5 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Wayne Firehouse. Cost is $5 per adult and $2.50 for children 10 years of age and under. Ecumenical Thanksgiving Worship Service The churches of the Bath area will come together for their annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Worship Service at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at the First Presbyterian Church of Bath located on Pulteney Square. The Rev. J eff McDowell of Centenary United Methodist Church will be the preacher. Please note the earlier time this year. There will be a combined choir and an opportunity for individuals to make their personal thanksgivings known to the community. The church is handicapped accessible. Seatbelt saturation checks and patrols The Steuben County Sheriff's Office in conjunction with the New York State Governor's Traffic Safety Committee will be conducting seatbelt saturation checks and patrols from Nov. 12-25. Bath School Board The Bath Board of Education will hold a special board meeting at 5 p.m. Nov. 15 in the District Office. The purpose of the meeting will be for the Special Election of a BOCES Board Member. Single Adult Fellowship dance Single Adult Fellowship will present a dance at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17 featuring live music by Country Boys at the First Presbyterian Methodist Church, Painted Post. The dance is open to all divorced, widowed, separated or never married. Must be 21 years of age to attend. Glenn H. Curtiss Museum events • The "12th Annual Miniatures Vendor Show and Sale" will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 24 at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. This is an opportunity to purchase minatures as well as view the 17th Annual Miniatures and Doll House Exhibit. On this day only admission will be $5 and all items in Museum Gift Shop will be 10% off. • The "17th Annual Miniatures and Doll House Exhibit" will be on display from Nov. 16-Feb. 24, 2008 at The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum of early aviation and local history. Included will be exhibits new to this annual show, as well as returning favorites.
