Incumbents, GOP strong in general elections
By ROB PRICE THE COURIER-ADVOCATE

BATH - Incumbents and Republicans dominated area elections last week, with the Bath town supervisor walloping his independent challenger and the former Steuben County Treasurer winning an easy election to the county Legislature, besting his Democratic competitor.

According to unofficial results at the Steuben County Board of Elections, Bath Supervisor Fred Muller, a Republican running also as the Conservative Party candidate, garnered a total of 1,314 votes, besting Payson Snyder of the Bath Citizens Party, with 461 votes.

The Bath Citizens Party also nominated two candidates for town council positions. Local voters, however, chose Republican incumbents Albert Burns (1,141 votes) and William Glossick (946) over Michael Povoski (340) and Patricia Rice (281). Rice also garnered 173 votes as an Independent Party candidate. Her combined vote count of 454 edged Democratic candidate Patricia Eaton (401).

George Hauryski, running for the Independent Taxpayers Party, won 355 votes.

On the legislative level, Republican Larry Crossett received 982 votes to Democrat Gary Ostrander's 557 votes. Conservative Party candidate Robin Lattimer, whom Crossett squeaked by in the Republican primary election, drew 321 votes.

Crossett will replace Leg. Ron Nielson, R-Bath, who retires from the county Legislature after 13 years.

In Leg. District 7, Leg. John Walsh easily held off a challenge from Howard Supervisor Don Evia, drawing a total of 971 votes to Evia's 227. Evia was running as a Conservtive Party candidate after losing to Walsh in the Republican primary election.
