Manley Roger Fowler

NEW PORT RICHEY, FLORIDA - Manley Roger Fowler, 84, of New Port Richey, Florida died Nov. 2. He was born in Newark, New York on Dec. 2, 1922, and moved to Florida from Bath in 1970 with his wife Onnolee who passed away in Dec. 1993.

Manley is survived by his wife Ruth M. Fowler; three daughters Sharon (Kenneth) Ward of Bath, Judith (Philip) Nase of Ft. Mill, South Carolina and Kathleen (Michael) Meyer of New Port Richey, Florida; and one step-daughter Nancy (Richard) Wiltsey of New Port Richey, Florida; three sisters, Helen (James) Robinson of Boulder, Colorado, Virginia, (Thomas) Boyes of Interlaken and Lorraine (Charles) Willis of Penfield; grandsons Scott (Kari) Ward of Bath and Jason (Erin) Nase of Destin, Florida; granddaughters Wendy Ward of Bath, Kirstin (CJ) Foulks of Brooksville, Florida, Alison Pettry of Richmond, Texas, Erica Salazar of Largo, Florida and Mileen Meyer of New Port Richey, Florida; great grandchildren Dustin Krisher, Bradley, Christopher and Danielle Ward, Marissa and Jesse Foulks, Mya and Julian Salazar; step-grandchildren Donna (John) Carr and Scott (Sharon) Wiltsey; step great-grandchildren Alex, Taryn, Curtis and Kevin; sister-in-laws Alberta Reynolds of Safety Harbor, Florida, Martha Bartholomew of Corning, Elva Drehmer of Bath and Polly (Jerry) Seager of Mocksville, North Carolina; brother -in-law Albert J. Campbell of Mocksville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Fowler was a long time member of the North Bay Community Church in Clearwater, Florida and former member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Bath. He retired from the grocery business in 1974.

Manley was a decorated veteran of WWII, member of B.P.O.E. 1547 in Bath and a past master of Steuben Lodge 112, Bath. He was also a member of the American Legion in Clearwater, Florida and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 14000.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, Bath. An Elks, Masonic and Military Service will also be held.

Memorial Donations may be made to the Centenary United Methodist Church, Bath, NY 14810.

A private burial will be held at Seamen's Cemetery, Savona.

Beverly S. Nelson

BATH - Beverly S. Nelson, 73, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 10, at her home, with her family by her side.

Beverly was born on Sept. 25, 1934 to Augustus and Lela Sager of Avoca. In 1952, Beverly graduated from Avoca Central School. After high school, she attended Rochester Business Institute and later Pauline Beauty School.

Throughout her lifetime, she worked for one year at the Bath VA as a Medical Secretary. She also worked as a bookkeeper, both parttime and full-time, at the Haines Equipment Company in Avoca for approximately 18 years. Thereafter, she worked parttime for nine years as a secretary for Kinship Family and Youth Services in Bath, Corning and Hornell.

In 1956 Beverly married Robert Delbert Thorsen, who after 34 years of marriage predeceased her in 1990. Beverly was an active partner in the Thorsen potato business. She was always willing to lend a hand. She was very active member of her church in Avoca, the Ladies Farm Bureau, Cub Scouts, the Avoca School PTA and her children's sporting events.

In 1994, Beverly married Wilbur Nelson of Avoca.

Beverly was a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister and friend. Even through her sickness with cancer, one could count on Beverly's warm smile, cheerful disposition and kind words. She loved to care for her children, grandchildren and her mother, Lela, who lived to be 107 years old. To visit her children, she traveled to seven countries in Europe and Asia and to many US states. Her other loves were gardening, especially her flowers and arts and crafts.

Survivors include her husband, Wilbur Nelson of Avoca; her children, Robert Michael (Mary Lou) Thorsen of Walkersville, Maryland, Michele (Tsewang) Topden of Windhoek, Namibia and Melinda (Smokey) Stapleton of Melbourne, Florida; her brother, Stanley (Helen) Sager of Bath; her brotherin law, Donald Julien of Avoca; her grandchildren, Calden Topden and Amanda Markowski.

She was predeceased by her dear sister, Dolores Julien of Avoca.

Calling hours were from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the Avoca Baptist Church, with the Rev. Curtis Parker and the Rev. Bill McFeaters officiating. Burial was held in Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.

Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Beverly's name to the Avoca Baptist Church, 1 Church St., Avoca, NY 14809 or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Road, Corning, NY 14830.
