Steuben officials likely to get raises
By MARY PERHAM THE LEADER

BATH - Salary increases next year for eight elected officials and appointed department heads are likely to range between 3.5 percent to 4.5 percent.

The Steuben County Legislature gave preliminary approval to raises for officials including the county administrator, treasurer and sheriff.

There was little discussion on the raises, scheduled for final approval when the Legislature meets Nov. 26.

County Administrator Mark Alger said elected officials received a 4 percent pay hike next year. Those include Sheriff Richard Tweddell and Treasurer Carol Whitehead.

Alger said the salary increases for appointed officials range between 3.5 percent and 4.5 percent, and depend on evaluations of job performance.

Alger's salary could be boosted from $96,500 to $101,000 next year, i f approved by the Legislature.

Raises for other elected and appointed officials were determined last year.
