Prattsburgh man wins environmental award

RICHARD MARX
ROCHESTER - Richard A. Marx, a Prattsburgh resident and senior environmental engineer at national law firm Nixon Peabody LLP, is the 2007 recipient of the Hugh E. Cumming Environmental Quality Award.

Marx has been employed in the firm's Environmental Practice Group for nearly 20 years. He performs environmental technical work that supports the firm's legal services for clients. Mr. Marx is a Certified Professional Environmental Auditor, a Certified Professional Health and Safety Auditor and a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.

Each year, the Cumming Award is presented by the Center for Environmental Information to an individual, group or organization that has made a significant contribution to environmental protection, improvement or education in the Rochester-Genesee-Finger Lakes region.

Marx is involved in a number of public service activities that benefit the area, engaging in them on his own time. He is a cofounder of the Rochester Peregrine Falcon Project which introduced falcons in western New York and teaches students and community members about falcons as an endangered species; co-founder of the New York River Otter Project, Inc., which reintroduced the river otter to central and western New York; and a Board member of the Genesee Land Trust, where he donates his services to support the pre-acquisition due diligence for most of that organization's projects. He also serves on the Board of the Braddock Bay Bird Observatory.
