ELMIRA - If you can't outscore them, make sure they don't score.

That's the philosophy Corning West has adopted to build a 4-2 record after beating Campbell- Savona 44-40 in Saturday's Section IV-Section V Shootout, Dec. 8, at First Arena. Saturday's win was also a bounce-back game for West, coming off Friday's loss to Elmira Southside.

West led 19-16 at the half and pushed its lead to 13 points in the third quarter before Campbell- Savona pressed to close within four points. However, West's defense, which averages just 38 points per game allowed, ultimately won out.

"That's what we're living off right, we're still working on the offensive part of the game," said West coach Mike Johnston. "We have to keep the games low scoring to give us an opportunity to win games."

Bryce Edmister led the Vikings in scoring with 13 points, including the only 3-pointer of the game, while Nick Dobson scored 10 points to go along with his five rebounds. Austin Norvel chipped in six points, dished out five assists, pulled down five rebounds and made four steals. The Panthers were led by senior Maynard Crane's game-high 22 points and Josh Povloski's six.
