Margelia J. "Marg" Ostrander

AVOCA - Margelia J. "Marg" Ostrander, 77, formerly of Chase St., died early Wednesday morning, Dec. 19, at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.

Born in Avoca on Oct. 22, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Orpha Craigg Wightman. On July 30, 1949, she was married at the Avoca United Methodist Church to Carl W. Ostrander, who predeceased her on Dec. 14, 2002, after 53 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Delsi.

A resident of Avoca for most of her life, Marg graduated as the valedictorian of her class from Avoca Central School.

She was a homemaker and was a member of the Avoca United Methodist Church, the Women's Auxiliary of the Avoca Hose Co. and the Twigs Association.

Marg was a seamstress and enjoyed quilting.

Her family includes her three sons, Richard (Nora) Ostrander of North Syracuse, Terry Ostrander of Avoca and Mark (Cindy) Ostrander of Bath; her daughter, Janice (Leo) Balistreri of Bath; her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; her two brothers, Arthur (Judy) Wightman and Theodore (Marie) Wightman all of Avoca; her sister, Doris Caulkins of Bath; also her nieces and nephews.

Calling hours were held from noon-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral service was held following calling hours at 2 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Sande Thomas officiating. Committal services and interment followed at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
