Hammondsport open for business To The Editor, In response to Ms. Eaton's editorial about overblown traffic fears of Wal-Mart influence. I as a shop owner in Hammondsport welcome the traffic, the more activity in the area, the better! I did take a step back when it was mentioned that downtown Hammondsport shuts down for the winter. I am here and we are open every day. Hammondsport has seven new shops and several new and revived restaurants all open. We have a new barber, a new supermarket, a new frame shop, a new wine & cheese tasting shop, a new antique shop, a new chocolate shop and a new reproduction vintage shop. We will soon have a new Italian restaurant in the Union Block Building. All have been open through Christmas and will remain open through the winter. Our first event in the New Year starts February 2nd with a huge Mardi Gras Parade including music, costumes, strutting and shopping specials. The Chocolate Gingerbread House Contest follows with a competition of professional and non-professional houses on display at the New Fred & Harriet Taylor Library on February 29th. The Village of Hammondsport is here with a filled schedule of events throughout the year to entice all interests. We are working hard to create more shoulder season events that benefit local residence as well as increasing tourism during the off but open season. Do more, be more, see more in Hammondsport!
