H'port claims crown in home tournament
BY SHAWN VARGO THE LEADER

HAMMONDSPORT * Once Hammondsport got going offensively, it didn't take it long to gain control and cruise to a 49-39 win in the championship game of the Hammondsport Holiday Tournament Friday, Dec. 28.

"This is a big win for us - a signature win that we want ed," said Hammondsport coach Alan Perry. "Dundee is a big rivalry with us and we really wanted to be able to win this game. This win gives us a nice New Year's present."

The Lakers needed 3:17 to convert their first field goal of the night - then it was clear sailing.

"We're not the fastest starting team. Luckily our defense is up to the task and usually keeps us close," Perry said.

Kalyn Fries helped Hammondsport grab a 13-7 first quarter lead with four points. Jenna Presley chipped in with a three-point play.

Chloe Makarick and Pressley sparked a 12-2 run early in the second quarter with five points apiece as the Lakers pushed their lead to 25-13.

Dundee countered with four points from Nicole Muoio, but it was Hammondsport that enjoyed a 30-22 lead at halftime.

Jen Gordon kept the Lakers out front with four points in a low-scoring third quarter that saw Hammondsport outscore the Scots 9-4.

Makarick closed out the game with six points in the fourth quarter to give her a game-high 14 points. Presley finished with 12 points and six rebounds.

"Jenna and Chloe really played well tonight," Perry said.

Dundee was led by nine points from Casi Strait and eight from Trista Nageldinger.
