Wheeler W. Meyers
Wheeler was born in the Town of Urbana on Oct. 9, 1933, the son of the late Fred and Fanny (Bell) Meyers. He married Eleanor Hooker on April 22, 1957 in Urbana, she survives him. Wheeler attended school in Hammondsport and served with the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He retired from Corning Glass Works, in 1995 after working as a project engineer for 35 years. He was a member of the Bath Elks Club, Town of Urbana Masonic Lodge, member and past patron Savona O.E.S. Wheeler enjoyed fishing, hunting and restoring old John Deere tractors. He also liked gardening, raising raspberries and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Eleanor and two daughters: Tami (William) Orcutt of Savona, Pamela (Joseph) Higbie of Savona, granddaughter, Colleen (William) Benedict of Savona; granddaughter, Lisa Orcutt of Savona; grandson, Jacob Higbie of Savona; grandson, Phillip Higbie of Savona; several nieces and nephews, several sisters and brothers in law. He was predeceased by a brother Fred Meyers. Friends may call Sunday, Jan. 13 from 1-2 p.m. at the Phillips Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St. in Corning. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorials to Food Bank of the Southern Tier, 945 Co. Rt. 64, Elmira, N.Y. 14903. |
