Three cheers for Urbana lake park

To the Editor,

The announcement of the successful purchase of land for the new Glenn Curtiss Park is reason for joy. For a long time I have felt that Bath and the adjoining area lacked accessible parks for its residents. The kids did well with their school yards and activities, but adults were largely ignored. Let's face it, adults need outdoor activity just as much as children. It's necessary for health.

Thanks to these wonderful donors and negotiators, this lack is being ameliorated. I definitely will visit this park often and when I do, I will think of Glenn in appreciation of his stupendous pioneering work in aviation, and I say this as a former aviation engineer, myself.

These donors should also be in our thoughts when we visit the park. Although unknown, your good wishes will get through to them because spirit has no barrier to communication. These fine people had two coats and gave us one. They represent the future.

Someday the whole world will learn and practice this most important biblical lesson.

Now if only we can have a rail to trail path between Route 54 in Bath and Hammondsport. That would be paradise.
