TRACTOR-TRAILER ACCIDENT

JASON COX/THE LEADER A tractor-trailer accident slowed traffic Monday afternoon, Jan. 7, on Interstate Highway 86 in Coopers Plains. The tractor-trailer was hauling scrap metal and debris from Hornell to Owego when it overturned at 3:38 p.m. Monday as it approached Curtis-Cooper Bridge on eastbound I-86. The tractor-trailer took out approximately 300 feet of guide rail before it overturned off the roadway, Painted Post state police reported. The driver, Stephen J. Colangelo, of Owego, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, police said. One of the east - bound lanes was closed for approximately five hours. Colangelo, who was released from the hospital, was ticketed for speed not reasonable and prudent, moved from lane unsafely and unsafe tire.
