Catholic Charities receives grant for heating assistance

BATH - Catholic Charities last week announced four regional offices - in Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler and Tioga Counties - will share a grant totaling $45,000 from Fortuna Energy Inc. The grant will be used to assist local people with energy bills this year.

Fortuna Energy Inc. is a natural gas exploration and production company based in Horseheads. When making charitable investments, Fortuna Energy seeks to make a broad impact on the communities in which they operate.

"We at Fortuna Energy recognize that the high cost of home heating can make it difficult for some families to make ends meet," Jim O'Driscoll, president of Fortuna Energy Inc., said.

With a similar grant from Fortuna Energy last winter, Catholic Charities was able to help 404 households with an average amount of $113 in cash assistance per household.
