Arthur F. Andrews

HAMMONDSPORT - Arthur F. Andrews, 87, of 8 Mechanic St., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Taylor Health Center.

He was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Worster, Massachusetts, the son of Manuel and May Rose Aker Andrews. Art graduated from schools in Stonington, Massachusetts. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran of WWII, serving for three years, two of them in the South Pacific, discharged in 1945 as a Corporal. He came to Hammondsport in the late forties and worked for the Courier Advocate. He was a member of the Hammondsport American Legion and the Bath V.F.W., member and past-President of the Hammondsport Rotary Club, where he had perfect attendance for 49 years, he also was the committeeman for Rotary with Cub Scout pack #18 for many years, a Paul Harris Fellow, and charter member of the Bath Country Club.

He was part of a group that was in strumental in starting the Hammondsport Little League, acting as it's President for several years, and he was former Mayor of the Village of Hammondsport from 1983- 1987. He retired in 1982 after 26 years as a rural mail carrier for the Hammondsport Post Office.

Surviving are his wife Mary Lou Putnam Andrews; stepdaughter Maria (Phillip) Kellogg Skinner of Binghamton; step-son Mike (Tonya) Kellogg of Seymour, Connecticut; sisters Mary DiRobbio of Westerly, Rhode Island and Edith Thiebeault of Charleston, Rhode Island; brother Ralph Andrews of Westerly, Rhode Island; stepgrandchildren Christopher, Arminda, Cody Kellogg and Zachary Skinner; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends called Friday, Jan. 18, from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 19, from 10- 11 a.m. at the LaMarche Funeral Home, 35 Main Street, Hammondsport, where Funeral services were held Saturday at 11 a.m. Maureen O'Neill will officiate.

Interment with full Military Honors was held in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport.

The family provided their own flowers, memorials should be made to the Hammondsport Rotary Club Library Fund, P.O. Box 69, Hammondsport, NY 14840 or a charity of one's choice.
