Evelyn June Butts BATH - Evelyn June Butts, 81, of Perkins Place, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 at the Steuben County Health Care Facility, Bath. She was born to Walter and Clara Pierce on June 8, 1926 in Wheeler. She attended school in Wheeler and later graduated from Haverling High School in 1944. She was a member of the National Honor Society. When she was twelve she unconditionally accepted Christ as her savior. She was an active member of the Methodist churches in Wheeler and later Bath Centenary. She also was active in grange, joining all local, state and national degrees and was a member at Wheeler where she had held most offices. She held several offices in Pomona Grange among which was Chaplain and Lecturer serving and enjoying the latter for two separate terms. She and Charles were Steuben County king and queen in the Dairy Festival Parade. She was a 4H member and later leader in Wheeler. As a teenager her dream to marry a farmer came true when she met Charles. After a three-year romance, they were married Feb. 17, 1945. At that time they took possession of the Gen. Marshall farm in Wheeler. She loved driving a tractor. She was a member and last leader of the Harmony Bells, who were a singing group sponsored by the Extension Service. Enjoyed reading and traveling by car, bus and motorhome. Predeceased by brothers Leo, Roland, sisters Rose Townsend, Eleanor Hand, Ruth Byrum. Survived by husband Charles; three sons Fred (Judy) Butts of Mattison, North Carolina, Lawrence (Sherry) Butts of Hamilton, Barre Butts of Filmore; sister-in-law Wanda Pierre of Bath; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Burial was held in Prattsburgh Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Methodist churches in Wheeler, Avoca, Bath and Kanona in her memory. |
