H-port downs Arkport 56-45

THE LEADER

HAMMONDSPORT - Jake Clarkson erupted for 20 points and pulled down 13 rebounds to lead Hammondsport to a 56-45 win over Arkport Friday, Jan. 18.

Derek Baroody and Brian Stachnik each chipped in with 10 points for the Lakers.

Greg Talbot led Arkport with 11 points.

Livonia takes 20-8 lead over Haverling

THE LEADER

LIVONIA - Livonia got out to a 20-8 lead and went on to win 63-41 over Bath Haverling Friday, Jan. 18.

The Bulldogs were led by Ryan Metz's 17 points. Matt Girolmo and Corey Brizzee netted 16 points each in front of the home crowd.

Bath was led by Brett Sutryk's 11 points, while Sean Lyke and Chris Leonard netted eight points each.

J-T earns 52-29 victory over C-S

THE LEADER

JASPER - The Wildcats held Campbell-Savona to 10 points in the first half and Jasper- Troupsburg went on for a 52- 29 victory Friday, Jan. 18.

The Wyant sisters, Katie and Meghan, combined for 31 points to keep Jasper- Troupsburg (12-1, 9-0) unbeaten in SCAA action. Meghan scored a game-high 17 points, including three from beyond the arc, to go along with a team-high six assists. Katie netted 14 points with two treys, while teammate Nakisha Graham dropped 12.

"I was really pleased with how we defended in the first half," said Jasper-Troupsburg head coach Aaron Button. "We were first in the league and they were second coming in, so this was a big win for us."

Campbell-Savona was led by Kaitlin Smith's 14 points, while Corinne Wright added nine for the Panthers.

Bradford loses early lead, Addison wins 40-28

THE LEADER

ADDISON - Bradford got out to an early 9-0 lead, but Addison battled back to claim a 40-28 win over the Braves Friday, Jan. 18.

Bridgette Sutryk led the Knights with 13 points, while Corissa Hyde netted eight for Addison. Carey Crooker scored five, as Danielle Hill and Rebekah Fort added four points each.

"They got out to an early lead and we just had no ball movement tonight," said Addison head coach Kim Driskell. "We really need to tune up the ball movement as we prepare for Canisteo next week."

Chelsea Dykes led Bradford with a dozen points and Teri McGettigan added six for the Braves.

Canisteo-Greenwood puts Avoca away early

THE LEADER

CANISTEO - Canisteo- Greenwood got out to an early lead and put Avoca away early in a 70-25 victory Friday, Jan. 18.

Brandon Wallace led the Redskins with a game-high 18 points, while teammate Bryce Ryan netted 10. John McKibben and Blake Brown dropped eight points apiece, as Brett Ryan led the Redskins with eight rebounds. All together, Canisteo-Greenwood had 10 players in the scoring column to spread out the offense.

"I was real pleased tonight," said Canisteo-Greenwood head coach Collin Button. "It was a whole team effort offensively and defensively."

Joe Wallace led the Tigers with seven points, while Brian Kidder added five for Avoca.

Addison holds Bradford to 12 firsthalf points

THE LEADER

BRADFORD - Addison held Bradford to 12 first half points on its way to a 78-42 win Friday, Jan. 18, on the road.

Bryan Dann paced the Knights with a game-high 23 points, while Colt Makowiec netted 14 for Addison. Mike Strong and Lee Bowers each scored nine, while Barrett Brewster chipped in with eight.

"They are a great defensive team with a very hard-pressing zone," Bradford head coach Don Dykes said. "They are a very quick, very aggressive ball club. Bryan Dann and Colt Makowiec had really strong games for them."

Mitchell Kelly paced the Braves with 11 points, while Dylan Blencowe and Pat Miller netted eight points apiece for Bradford.

Livonia girls basketball defeats Haverling

THE LEADER

BATH - Jen Wilson netted a game-high 18 points to lead Livonia to a 50-28 win over Bath Haverling Friday, Jan. 18.

Leah Fuerst led the Rams (6- 8, 1-6) with 10 points and five rebounds, while teammate Rachel Oest added seven points.

"We played very timid offensively," Bath head coach Randy Abrams said.

Bath loses to Alfred- Almond; defeats Pal- Mac

THE LEADER

BATH - Tyler Harvey's quadruplewin effort Saturday, Jan. 19, lifted the Alfred-Almond swim team to victories against Bath Haverling and Palmyra- Macedon.

Bath suffered a 65-37 loss to Alfred-Almond, but did manage a 51-51 tie against Palmyra- Macedon.

Steve Stromsness and Luke Ferree each picked up individual wins for the Rams. Stromsness won the diving competition with a score of 193.35, while Ferree placed first in the 100 freestyle in 54 seconds.

Harvey notched individual triumphs in the 100 butterfly (1:01.39) and 200 individual medley (2:15.77), while also helping the Eagles to victory in the 200 free and 400 free relays.

Haverling wrestling team captures victory at Hornell

THE LEADER

HORNELL - With four weight-class champions, the Bath Haverling wrestling team captured victory Saturday, Jan. 19, at the 20-team State Farm Classic at Hornell High School.

Bath's Kyle Conrad (103 pounds), Jacob Harrison (119), Tony Hutcheson (171) and Zack Simons (189) each won their respective weight classes to lead the Rams, who won the tournament with 186 points. The Rams last won the tournament in 2004.

Keshequa finished second with 152.5 points and Canisteo- Greenwood's 152 points was good enough for third.

The Rams also got a secondplace finish from Billy Crowe at 130 pounds and a third-place showing from seventh grader Mitchell Buckley at 112.

"I'm pleased with the way we wrestled," Bath head coach Jim Fowler said. "We were really banged up coming in, so I'm happy that we won."

Bath boys basketball defeats Midlakes 49- 41

THE LEADER

BATH - Michael Rossi drained five 3-pointers and netted a game-high 21 points Saturday, Jan. 19, to lead the Bath Haverling boys basketball team to a 49-41 win over Midlakes.

Rossi also pulled down six rebounds for the Rams, who improved to 3-10 on the season.

Andre McCloud also connected from long distance and added eight points in the win.

Rams ski team places 6th

THE LEADER

SWAIN - The Bath Haverling ski team finished with some impressive times Saturday, Jan. 19, at Swain Resort, competing amongst 14 teams in two slalom events.

Bob Cilino led the Rams to a sixth place team finish in the slalom, with a time of 44.57. Cilino's time gave him a finish of 43rd in a field of 61 skiers. Adam Force took 51st (55.90), Chris Spencer placed 54th (57.62) and Robert Masti finished 56th (1:03.35) for Bath.

Cilino also paced the Rams in the Giant Slalom, where his time of 45.16 was good enough for 37th place. Spencer had a strong finish at 50th (50.45), while Adam Force added a 57th-place finish at 56.37. Teammate Ken Gilbert finished 58th in 57.39 to give Bath a team rank of ninth out of 14 teams.

In modified slalom action, Trevor Lang placed 1st out of 37 skiers. Lang's two slalom runs combined for a time of 1:18.40 to lead all participants.

Canisteo-Greenwood earns a 70-3 victory over H-port

CANISTEO - Canisteo- Greenwood won 12-of-13 matches enroute to a 70-3 victory over Hammondsport Tuesday, Jan. 22.

The Redskins got pins from Jake Mayorga (130 pounds), Mark Ahearn (145), Brandon Mills (160) and Collin Weakland (285), along with a major decision from Chris Rauber (152).

Hammondsport's lone win came from Nick Foster, who scored a decision win at 135.

Bath skiiers strong in meet

THE LEADER

SWAIN - The Bath Haverling ski team recorded a few person al bests on the slopes Wednesday, Jan. 23, recording solid times on the slalom course.

Bob Cilino led the Rams with a personal best time of 1:21.78 in two runs, good enough for 20th place overall. Bryan Smith placed 38th (1:33.99), Chris Spencer finished 51st (1:45.02) and Ryan Masti recorded a personal best finish of 2:07.35 in 56th place.

"The top of the course was rutting in a bit, but i think they're doing a good job with the conditions," said Bath Haverling coach Ron Smith.

In modified action, Trevor Lang shaved nearly two seconds off his first-place time Saturday, Jan. 19. Even with the faster time, Lang finished .03 seconds behind the winner for a second place finish of 37.18.

Mastenbrook gets 100th win, Panthers prevail

THE LEADER

CAMPBELL - Jake Mastenbrook posted his 100th career victory Thursday, Jan. 24, and led the Campbell- Savona wrestling team to a 41- 30 win over Avoca.

Mastenbrook scored a 19-4 technical fall against Dave Hogan at 130 pounds to record his milestone victory and improve to 10-1 on the season. Mastenbrook's only loss came against a defending state champion.

"We're looking at him having a good shot at winning sectionals and being a contender and hopefully he'll get there," Campbell-Savona head coach Dom Scolaro said.

The turning point of the match came at 119 when Campbell-Savona's Devon Paul pinned Chris Hogan in 3:46.

"I think that was the key match for us," Scolaro said.

The Panthers' Josh Simons put the match on ice with a pin of Mike Fishgertz in 3:33 at 152. Campbell-Savona's Andrew MacIlwain won by pin at 215.

Campbell-Savona (2-2) will wrestle at Arkport at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Campbell-Savona swim team sets new records

THE LEADER

CAMPBELL - Campbell- Savona set a few new school

records and recorded several personal bests, but the Panthers fell to a powerful Naples team 113-73 Thursday, Jan. 24.

Drew Teter led Campbell- Savona (8-4) by breaking two school records. Teter set Campbell-Savona's new 200 freestyle time with a firstplace finish in 2:07.42, while also setting a new record in the 100 freestyle. Jason Smith also set a school record for the Panthers with a time 1:06.23 in the 100 backstroke, as several other swimmers recorded personal bests.

"The competition from Naples was real good and I think that made us swim better tonight," said Campbell- Savona head coach Tom DiMuro. "We had a ton of personal bests."

Campbell-Savona's 200 freestyle relay team of Smith, Teter, Tanner Swedeen and Wade Harrington placed first in 2:01.99 for the Panthers' fourth win.

Evan Trumbower and Chris Austin paced Naples with two individual wins apiece, accounting for half of the Big Green Machine's eight wins.
