Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post #173 sponsors wrestling tournament

The Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post #173 Squadron of The Sons of The American Legion of Bath sponsored a wrestling tournament for the Bath Youth Wrestling Club on Dec. 29, 2007. This is the 17th year that the Squadron has sponsored the tournament.

The event was held at The Haverling High School gym. The wrestlers used four mats as there were four matches at a time, and competitions started at 9 a.m. after registration and weigh ins were completed and went to 5 p.m.

Donald (Tuffy) Chalmers has been the program Chairman for this event for The Squadron since the Squadron became involved. This year there were 268 wrestlers that participated which was a record number. They ranged in age from 6 years to 19 years.

Wrestlers attending were from Mayfield, Mexico, Vestal Wayland-Cohocton, Campbell, Hammondsport, Hornell, Jasper- Troupsburg, Maine- Endwell, Union-Endicott and Bath in New York and Williamsport Pennsylvania.

Trophies were awarded to 1st and 4th places in each weight and age divisions. The team trophies were awarded to: 1st place to Maine-Edwell, 2nd place to Bath and 3rd place to Union-Endicott.

The Sons of The American Legion Squadron each year

donates the proceeds to the Bath Youth Wrestling Club for needed equipment and other expenses they have for participating in tournaments up to and including Nationals. This years profit was $4,000.00 for the club.
