Thunderbird District celebrates busy year

Pictured above, Cub Scouts raise the flag at Winteree 08 while at right, Scouts compete in a "catapult toss" sending oranges toward a target.
Thunderbird Scouts had an excellent summer camping experience again in 2007 with 14 packs sending Cub Scouts to attend one of our Council Day Camps or Resident Camp. On the Boy Scout side, every one of the district's 17 Troops attended camp at either Camp Gorton or Camp Brule', or had a long-term camping experience outside of the Council.

Here is the great financial news: The district sold $144,445 worth of popcorn. This is an increase of $10,557. With this amount, the district has exceeded its over-all District financial goal for 2007.

it would appear that the Thunderbird District is now on-track to earn the Centennial Quality District Award. I want you all to give yourselves, the people who made that possible, a round of applause.

The District Committee remains at 26 members over all, but this figure reflects several additions to replace members who have had to step down for a variety of reasons. Scout officials anticipate several additions to the Committee in 2008.

The Commissioner Staff again increased by two members this year. The district recruited new Unit Commissioners for open positions, and still have one opening to fill. A big welcome to Bob Rex of Dansville, who was recruited as Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner position by recruiting Bob Rex of Dansville.

The District also saw an increase in top unit leaders trained this last year, based on the strong efforts of Jud and Mary Stearns, Bill Glover, and all other trainers. Training sessions and attendance were excellent again in 2008.
