Mary Eellen (Kane) McCann SAVONA - Mary Ellen (Kane) McCann passed away on Jan. 24, at home. She was born July 20, 1925 in Tioga, Pennsylvania to Leon and Anna Mae Weaver Kane. She graduated as an RN from the Arnot School of Nursing in 1945 and spent her life as a nurse and mentor to those who worked with her. She worked at the old Bath Hospital, the VA in Bath, private nursing and finally retired from the Steuben County Infirmary in 1990. Mary Ellen married Donald McCann in April, 1946. He often said she was his nurse and his best friend. He predeceased her in 1993. Mary Ellen leaves behind a legacy of strength, dignity and grace. She will be dearly missed by her loving family, including children, Linda Giannotti of Savona, Daren McCann of N. Plainfield, New Jersey, Debbie (Virgil) Howell of Savona; step-daughter, Marion (Bob) Pulaski of Newark Valley; grandchildren, Lisa (Tonie) Patterson, Christopher (Teresa) King, Damian Bohler, Stephanie Bohler, Mark Bohler (Kim Brinckerhoff); great grandsons, Tyler, K'Maron and Trey and great granddaughter Kameryn, whom she has helped to raise. Also surviving are one brother, Francis Kane and sisters Marguerite (Frank) Moscovic and Evelyn (Charles) Crooks; sister-in-law and very dear friend, Martha McCann; sister-in-law Verna (Bill) Vonderchek; two dear friends who considered her their second mother, Donita Graham and Joyce Howey; several nieces, nephews and countless friends. Calling hours were held at Victory Highway Wesleyan Church from 1- 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, with memorial service followin at 3 p.m. with the Reverend Ted Roloson officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date. Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Corning has been entrusted with arrangements. The family requests no flowers. Please make donations in Mary Ellen's name to the Guthrie Cancer Clinic, Southern Tier Hospice, American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice. |
