reMODEL your BEDROOM
KEVIN MCCLINTOCK GateHouse Plus

While the (bed) room will never make a homeowner's top five list for a housewide remodel - since it's the one room in the house that's often off-limits to both friends and strangers - it still deserves some TLC.

So you've renovated your kitchen. Check.

You've make plans for your bathroom. Check.

Soon, you'll turn your attention to converting the attic into a home office. Check.

But what about the master bedroom? Yep - you heard that correctly. The master bedroom. It's amazing how many folks neglect this very important room. With the possible exception of the living room (thanks to that allimportant entertainment center), there isn't a single room in the entire house where you'll spend more time. Sadly, the master bedroom gets the short end of the remodeling stick, however.

While the room will never make a homeowner's top five list for a housewide remodel - since it's the one room in the house that's often off-limits to both friends and strangers - it still deserves some TLC.

The most important thing to consider for master bedroom interior design is to create a personal space - including things that have interest to the occupants. The room should reflect the personality of the owners while creating an intimate space. Just as well, the furnishings, colors and accessories need to be carefully considered to make sure the room will offer what's most important - comfort.

Color choices

Wall color is an important decision in master bedroom interior design. Choosing a color that's pleasant, not too stimulating and helps create the intimacy desired is the goal. Almost any color can employed if it's the right shade for the room. If colors are to dark, they'll close the room in and make it feel smaller. On the other hand, colors that are too light or muted may make a large room look washed out and boring. When picking a color, it is a good idea to get some samples and look at them in the room.

Bedding

Picking patterns for bedding and furnishings should also be done carefully. If there are two people who live in the master bedroom, both should have equal weight in the decision.

Nothing is more disappointing in master bedroom interior design than to get finished with the project and to have one person hate it.

Furniture

Every object in the bedroom large or small has a direct relation to dimensions of the human body. If a double bed is oversized, it will naturally occupy more floor space by reducing the volume of empty space. That's why proportions of every furniture piece are vital to maintaincomfort levels.

• Double bed - This is a comfortable sized bed but can vary depending upon the requirements at the interior site. Linen defines the shape of a double bed to some extent.

• Wardrobe - A wardrobe is another element in a bedroom that creates a significant impact on the entire interior design theme.

• Dressing table - A dressing table is a thing to be happy about. This is the place where women spend a lot of time shaping their faces. A small bedroom may not have enough space for a dressing table.

• Work space - When space is at a premium, many bedrooms are partially converted into offices, usually due to an office desk located next to the bed. This is useful for a computer and files.
