Garrett Landing work begins this spring

HAMMONDSPORT - Construction work on a 26- apartment condominium on Keuka Lake should begin some time this spring.

In a recent letter to the Village of Hammondsport, John Schuyler, senior project manager for the Garrett Landing condo project, said construction work has continued periodically since the foundation was completed last fall.

Work is expected to resume this spring once steel detailing is on site, according to Schuyler.

The detailing must be adjusted to adapt to the different layout designs, officials said.

The project is a joint effort between the Krog Corporation, of Orchard Park, and local entrepreneur Michael Doyle, o f Hammondsport.

"We're waiting on the steel, that's all," Doyle said.

Dogged by litigation, the developers have waited a dozen years for the project to get under way.

A citizens group, Friends of Hammondsport, opposed the lakefront project on a number of issues and filed a series of legal challenges against the developers.

The opponents charged the village Planning Board had insufficiently reviewed building plans and improperly rezoned the lake shore property for residential use. Other issues included the effect the condominium would have on the lake waters, and the effect the threestory structure would have on other residents' views.

But the lawsuits were dismissed by the state Supreme Court and later by the Appellate Court, clearing the way for construction.

Krog Corp. currently is involved with a number of construction projects across the state.

Locally, Krog is a developer/ owner of a portion of the former Dana Lyon Elementary School. The firm has worked on projects for Corning Inc. and Corning Hospital.

Other local proposals and projects include alterations to the Lagonegro Building in Elmira for an academic center and the Seneca Harbor Hotel in Watkins Glen.
