Oletha Shattuck Townsend BATH - Oletha Shattuck Townsend, 97, passed away on Saturday, March 8, at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 6, 1910, the daughter of the late Wesley and Bessie (Carr) Shattuck. She attended Unionville School and then was a graduate of Haverling HIgh in 1928, she went to Teacher Training at Geneseo and taught two years at Bucksettlement. She was a lifelong member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Bath, RSVP Volunteer for many years, a member of the Garden Club. Her life revolved around her family. She loved birds. She married Clarence Townsend on Oct. 18, 1931; he predeceased her in Nov. 1978. She is survived by her two sons, Donald and Beverly Townsend of Bath and Paul Townsend of Bath; four daughters, Julia and Eldon Parker of Bath, Claretha and John Coumbe of Bath, Ruth and Roy Hann of Bath and Betty and Rev. Dr. Don Hillyard of Columbia, South Carolina; 12 grandchildren, Bill (Jill) Townsend of Davningtown, Pennsylvania, Diane (Ed) Wavle of Fulton, Nancy (Jeff) Walters of Bath, Deanna (Bret) Jacoby of San Jose, California, Susan Coumbe of Woodhull, Brian (Kathy) Hann of Camden, South Carolina, Dr. Gary Hann of N. Augusta, South Carolina, Wendy (Thomas) Colonno of Albany, Jonathan (Rebecca) Tompkins of Decatur, Georgia, Barbara (Dick) Nicholson of Elmira Heights, David (Kim) Townsend of Bath an Ch eryl (Kevin) Mahnke of Montana; 23 greatgrandchildren. Calling hours were observed Wednesday, March 12, from 1-3 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at the Bond-Davis Funeral Home of Bath where her Funeral Service was held on Thursday, March 13, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend Jeffrey McDowell, Reverend Dr. Don Hillyard and Dr. Gary Hann officiating. Her burial was held at Nondaga Cemetery, Bath. Memorial donations may be made in Oletha's name to the Centenary United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice. |
