Elections return incumbents to office
By MARY PERHAM THE LEADER

Glass
Bath - Incumbents in the villages of Hammondsport and Bath were returned to their respective boards for another 2- year term in office Tuesday.

Bath Republicans were returned for their second terms of office, with trustee Jeanne Glass collecting 175 votes and Michael Skelly taking in 172 votes. Democrat candidate for trustee William Austin tallied 113 votes.

Both Skelly and Glass ran as independent candidates in 2006.

Glass said her first term was a learning experience.

"Now I have some momentum going," she said. "I'm ready to continue."

Skelly said the board still faces a lot of issues, such as the $9 million bond for upgrading the municipal utilities.

"The experience has helped us, it will make it easier for us this time around," Skelly said.

In uncontested elections in Bath, village Mayor David Wallace tallied 177 votes and village Justice Chauncey Watches netted 175 votes.

Turnout was low in Bath compared to 2005, when more than 400 voters showed up at the polls for a hotly contested race. In Hammondsport, turnout was roughly the same as two years ago, when about 140 voters cast their ballots.

In Hammondsport, trustee Lawrence Foster collected 116 votes, trustee Anne Green received 97 votes and former trustee Dr. Sam Pennise took in 69 votes. Green and Foster are Democrats while Pennise was the lone Republican contender.

Foster said the vote appeared to be a sign of confidence and support in the work he and Green have done on the board during their first terms on the board.

"I'd like to think so, anyway," Foster said.

Green said she was extremely happy with the results.

"I'm glad folks supported us, and we'll do our best to make the village a good place to live in," she said.
