ENDICOTT - Bath Haverling opened its boys lacrosse season by doing something it hadn't done in 40 games-win.
The Rams (1-0) defeated Owego Free Academy 12-8 at Ty Cobb Stadium Saturday, March 22, to snap a 40-game losing streak.
"We've been waiting for a win for two years," said Bath head coach Ken DiDomineck. "We got off to a shaky start, but then things really too off for us."
Owego grabbed a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, following a slow start by Bath.
"We played like we were still on the bus in the first quarter," DiDominick said.
Mathew Nesbitt helped provide the Rams with some consistency from the face-off circle winning 15 of 16 tries.
"We began to control the game from the second quarter on," DiDomineck said. "We were more patient on offense, we were solid on defense-the kids really came together."
Offensively, Dave Harris and Zack Reed led the Rams with four goals apiece. McKenzie Durham and Nick Rossi added two goals each, while Cole Beebe netted one.
Defensively, Brett Harrison, Mark Bart and Time Wolfer did a great job protecting Bath goalkeeper Chris Wolfer, who recorded 15 saves.
"Owego only got off 12 shots in the second half and none of them were really good ones. Most were from long range, which makes it easier on the goalie," DiDomineck said.
