If you'd like to see local firefighters in fierce competition between themselves instead of with fires, check out the 2008 Home and Recreation Show, set for May 17-18 at the Steuben County Fairgrounds.
Members of the Bath Volunteer Fire Department will demonstrate their skills in a Firematics competition Sunday. Firematics shows pitch teams of firefighters against each other in matchups that demand the same skills used in actual firefighting.
Sunday's Firematics show will follow Saturday's Lumber Jack and Jill Festival featuring intense competitions between male and female timber jocks.
Sponsored by The Courier Advocate, The Home and Recreation Show opens Saturday, May 17, with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Steuben County Agricultural Society. The fun continues through the weekend with chicken barbecues, hamburgers and hot dogs, sugar waffles and other snacks. Vendors will be offering the latest in home, recreation and farm merchandise, as well as cooking lessons, music, crafts and a flea market.
On Sunday, along with Firematics, the Home Show will feature the 2008 Classic Car Show, sponsored by Bath NAPA Auto Parts, Machuga Contracting an Sleve Construction. Your vintage autos may be registered at the NAPA store on Lackawanna Avenue from 10 to 11 a.m.
The classic vehicles and their drivers will make their way to the fairgrounds at 1 p.m., with trophies to be awarded later in the afternoon.
