Here's hoping Wal-Mart reconsiders

To the Editor,

First, I would like to apologize to the people of Bath for getting your hopes up along with ours on bringing Wal-Mart to Bath. Second, I would like to thank the other members of B.R.A.G. who put hours and hours of work in to help. Sometimes things are just out of our control no matter how hard you try. Am I upset... yes. Do I blame Wal-Mart for the whole thing... no. With the rising fuel costs, the economy the way it is, I do understand Wal-Mart's decision on not building here. Do I hope that somewhere in the future they reconsider their decision... yes. I do also want to thank the people of Bath, Hammondsport and all the other people who voiced their opinion on whether they wanted Wal-Mart here by putting signs, writing editorials and whatever else they did to make their voice hear. We, the members of B.R.A.G. appreciate your support. Now I know the anti Wal-Mart people are very happy to hear the news because of the outcome of this whole matter. For all the people who were against Wal-Mart, who said let's not jump at the first store that wants to come into Bath... here's your chance. It looks like it may be awhile before it may be reconsidered, so let's see how many department stores are just waiting to build in Bath. Then we can truly find out who really is interested in coming to our community.

I think in the end it will only be Wal-Mart again, if we ever get that chance.
