Local High School sports round-up GATEHOUSE MEDIA WELLSVILLE - Hammondsport left the Wellsville Tournament with a split Saturday, April 19, falling to Wellsville 3-1, before hammering Otto Eldred (Pa.) 20-2. In their opener, Hammondsport got a complete game effort from Jake Clarkson, who struck out 10 and allowed five hits and two walks. Ryan House provided the offense with an RBI in the seventh inning. "They were a little stale," said Hammondsport head coach Dan Conley, whose team had not played at all during the spring break. "Usually we're up to doubledigits in hits in a game." In the second game, Hammondsport scored nine times in the first inning and added 10 runs in the fourth as it rolled over Otto Eldred (Pa.). Clarkson, Derek Barody and Ric Wendlandt each had three hit s for the Lakers. Wendlandt had two doubles, while Clarkson picked up the win on the mound. Bath baseball defeats Livionia 12-11 GATEHOUSE MEDIA BATH - After jumping out to a 7-0 lead, Bath Haverling surrendered the advantage and eventually battled back for a 12-11 win over Livonia Monday, April 21. The game witnessed a combined seven pitchers take the mound, as the Rams eventually pulled out the victory. Mike Rossi entered the game in the fifth inning and dominated Livonia for the last two and a third innings to get the win in relief. Dustin Brown led the Rams with a 2-for-4 day, while Carl VanAmburg added two RBI. Teammates Brett Havens, Montana Yastremski, Matt Whedbee and Brown all knocked in one run each. "It ended up being very close," said Bath head coach Bob Buckley. "We were off about ten days and it showed on defense. We jumped out early and kind of relaxed a bit and let them get back into it by throwing the ball around." Livonia's Mike Feldman smacked a double and knocked in two runs. C-S golf team defeats C-G 34.5-20.5 GATEHOUSE MEDIA BIG FLATS - Campbell- Savona's Brad Pruden paced all golfers with a 48 on Willow Creek's front nine Monday, April 21. as Campbell-Savona bested Canisteo-Greenwood 34.5-20.5. Canisteo-Greenwood's Eric Seamen placed a close second to Pruden, stroking a 50 for the Redskins. Bath lax edged by McQuaid GATEHOUSE MEDIA BATH - Bath Haverlings boys lacrosse team hung tough until the very end, but caught a few tough breaks and fell to McQuaid 10-9 Tuesday, April 22. Bath scored four goals in a fourth quarter rally that fell a bit short when the game turned rough. McQuaid committed eight penalties in the fourth and Bath made the most of its man-up situations, scoring on four of them. McKenzie Durham led the charge with three goals and one assist, while Zach Reed and Dave Harris each added two. Bath is now 3-2 on the season with the Rams only two losses coming by two goals. Prattsburgh defeats C-S 5-0 GATEHOUSE MEDIA PRATTSBURGH - Prattsburgh's Josh Sanford battled back from a first-set deficit to win his singles match and complete a 5-0 sweep over Campbell-Savona Tuesday, April 22. Sanford fell behind Campbell-Savona's Tim Parker in the first set, losing by the score of 4-6. Sanford was down 3-4 in the second set before he rallied and won the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-2. A-A gains 5-0 win over Avoca GATEHOUSE MEDIA AVOCA - No one has taken a point from Alfred-Almond this season, but Avoca's Kent Lester came closer than most. Lester took the first set in second singles Tuesday, April 22, but Alfred-Almond's Eric Goodrich roared back with wins of 6-0 and 6-1 to keep the Eagles' perfect season intact. Aaron Rygiel breezed to a win in first singles and Tam Huang claimed third singles for the Eagles (5-0), while the doubles duos of Vameese Nerukonda and Zac Edwards and Peter O'Koniewski and Rohan Verdee won their fifth matches of the season. Bath Haverling takes down Warsaw 5-0 GATEHOUSE MEDIA WARSAW - Bath Haverling handled Warsaw with two sets victories in all five matches for the shutout victory Tuesday, April 22. Jason Carpenter led Bath at first singles, while Tyler Hill and Adam Webster each added singles wins of their own. Sam Hall and Nate McDowell cruised through their first doubles match, as the duo of Bob Celino and Matt Robinson were victorious at second singles. H-port golf teams gains 33.5-22.5 win over Canaseraga GATEHOUSE MEDIA PENN YAN - Ben Brown and Mike Preston both shot low rounds of 53 to lead Hammondsport over Canaseraga by the score of 33.5-22.5 at Lakeside Country Club. Haverling track defeats Honeoye 88.5-52.5 GATEHOUSE MEDIA BATH - Andre McCloud's quadruple-win effort Tuesday, April 22, helped the Bath Haverling boys track and field team to its first-ever win against Honeoye Falls-Lima. McCloud picked up firstplace finishes in the 100 meters (11.0 seconds), 200 meters (23.0), long jump (19-feet, 3.5 inches) and the 400 relay, with Kirt Martin, Jordan Nichols and Brian Vonderlin, as Bath posted an 88.5-52.5 win against Hon eoye Falls-Lima. Kirt Martin was a triplewinner for Bath, posting wins in the 400 meters (53.6), 400 relay and 1,600 relay. H-port defeats Addison 83-38 GATEHOUSE MEDIA HAMMONDSPORT - Steve Bailey and Chris Musso each racked up a pair of individual wins to lead Hammondsport to an 83-38 win over Addison. Bailey bested the field in the 200 meters (26.4 seconds) and 400 meters (59.8), while Musso prevailed in the long jump (15- 1) and triple jump (34-7). Addison's Lee Bowers won the 800 meters in 2:13.1. C-bell track defeats J-T and Brandford GATEHOUSE MEDIA CAMPBELL - Ray Holmes notched first-place finishes in three events to lead Campbell- Savona to wins against both Jasper-Troupsburg and Bradford. Holmes placed first in the 800 meters (2:17.7), long jump (18-feet, 11-inches), and triple jump (41-4.5). The Panthers' Ryan Thompson prevailed in the 200 meters (24.3) and high jump (5- 10). C-S baseball gains 8-5 win over Addison GATEHOUSE MEDIA ADDISON - Campbell- Savona scored seven runs in the third inning on its way to victory Tuesday, April 22. The Panthers sent 12 batters to the plate and pounded out eight hits in the frame, part of a 15-hit attack on the day. Zach Sutton led the way with three hits, including a triple. Matt Blencowe fanned nine for the victory. Addison was led by two RBI from Ryan Fleet and a double by Bryan Dann. H-port takes down Canaseraga 17-8 GATEHOUSE MEDIA CANASERAGA - Hammondsport jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 17- 8 win over Canaseraga. Hammondsport (5-1, 4-0) put up four or more runs in three innings, as the Lakers pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon. Justy Schuck roped two doubles, while teammate Anton Zyla added another. Ryan House legged out a triple and Will Bailey launched a homer for Hammondsport on the day. Haverling gains 9-2 win GATEHOUSE MEDIA HONEOYE FALLS - Brad York went the distance on the hill to earn the victory for Bath Haverling, as the Rams pounded out 10 hits in a 9-2 win over Honeoye Falls-Lima. York teamed up with catcher Bill Crowe to allow just five hit s over seven innings of efficient baseball. Mike Rossi supplied more than his share of the offense with a home run and three RBI as part of his 3-for-4 day, while teammate Brett Havens also socked a home run and drove in two. Carl VanAmburg went 2-for-3 at the plate and roped a double. Shippee fires 1st no-hitter GATEHOUSE MEDIA CANASERAGA - Hammondsport's Audrey Shippee threw her first no-hitter as she blanked Canaseraga in an 11-0 win Tuesday, April 22. Shippee breezed through the Canaseraga lineup, striking out 13 batters and only walking three. "She is definitely a location pitcher and she had great control of all four of her pitches tonight," said Hammondsport coach William Ordway. "I'm very proud of Audrey, to see a girl like her get as excited as she was is a pretty cool thing to see. She has really earned it." Ashley Travis led the Hammondsport offense with a homer and three RBI, while Ashley Hulse went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Alexandra Putney went 3-for-4, roping a double and a pair of triples, while knocking in three runs and scoring two. Shippee helped out her own cause at the dish, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Honeoye gains 16-10 win against Haverling GATEHOUSE HONEOYE FALLS - Bath Haverling scratched out 10 runs over the final four innings, but couldn't overcome the 13-0 deficitit dug itself in the opening three innings Tuesday, April 22. Megan Loghry tripled and drove in a run to lead the Rams' offense, while Amy Prutsman took the loss. C-S gains 103-17 win against Bradford GATEHOUSE MEDIA CAMPBELL - Katrina Gleason's double-win effort led Campbell-Savona to a 103-17 win over Bradford Tuesday, April 22. Gleason won in the long jump and helped the Panthers to a win in the 1600 relay. Reardon leads H-port to 80.5-51.5 GATEHOUSE MEDIA HAMMONDSPORT - Liz Reardon placed first in three events to lead Hammondsport to an 80.5-51.5 win over Addison. Reardon was victorious in the 200 meters, triple jump and helped the Lakers to a win in the 400 relay. Rams drop Red Raiders in 8 GATEHOUSE MEDIA HORNELL - Bath Haverling's Brett Havens + ripped a single up the middle to score Billy Crowe with the eventual winning run in the Rams' 11-10 win over Hornell in eight innings Wednesday, April 23. Each team scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third and five in the fifth, as Hornell mirrored Bath's run production to make it to extra innings knotted at 10 runs apiece. Crowe led off the top of the eighth with a single before Mike Rossi singled on a hitand run to move Crowe to third. Havens then stepped up and stroked a base hit up the gut to give the Rams an 11-10 lead, but Hornell still had its at-bat in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Leonard had relieved Rossi in the fourth inning and walked the first batter in the bottom of the eighth. Bath coach Bob Buckley yanked Leonard and brought in Dustin Smith, who promptly retired Hornell's big gun Tom Rose on a come backer to the mound. He then struck out the next batter and got the final out on a grounder to shortstop and sealed the win for Leonard. Montana Yastremski had a monster day for the Rams, collecting a game-high six RBI on two doubles and a two-run homer over the center field fence. Havens and Crowe both had two-hit games, while Sean Lyke added two RBI for the Rams. Rose led the Red Raiders with four RBI on his 3-for-5 afternoon, while Tony Sciotti and D.J. Schwartz had two hits each. CS defeats J-T 14-2 GATEHOUSE MEDIA CAMPBELL - Alex Caward and Matt Blencowe led the way with three hits apiece as seven different Panthers had multiple hits in Campbell-Savona's 14-2 win over Jasper-Troupsburg Wednesday, April 23. Caward not only had a big effort at the plate, but also picked up the win on the hill in a complete-game effort. Caward did not allow an earned run to improve to 2-0 on the season. He struck out three, walked three and gave up five hits. At the plate, Caward did much for his own cause. He doubled twice, drove in two runs, scored three runs and went 3-for-5 at the plate. Blencowe provided plenty of offense as well, going 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and three runs scored. Zach Sutton (2-for-4, two runs), Steve Wray (2-for-4, three runs), Anthony DeSalvo (2-for-3), Joe York (2-for-3) and Shane Barney (2-for-3) also contributed to the Panthers' 17- hit attack. Campbell-Savona (3-1) will host Avoca at 4:30 p.m. Monday, April 28. "I'm very proud of the whole team," Campbell-Savona head coach Kurt York said. "They're hitting well and playing well as a team. It's nice to see them building as a team." P-burgh gains 4-3 lose against Arkport GATEHOUSE MEDIA PRATTSBURGH - Shane Brewer knocked in Skylar Karb with the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh Wednesday, April 23, propelling Arkport to a 4-3 win over Prattsburgh. Unfortunately, what would have been a base hit for Brewer turned into a force out as he dislocated his knee and never made it to first. Karb reached base to ignite the seventh-inning rally with his second double of the game, capping a 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Ethan Lewis had a triple, double and went 2-for-3 for the Blue Jays. Shawn Kerr fanned eight and allowed seven hits in a complete-game effort to pick up the win. Dylon Dibble led the Vikings at the plate, going 2- for-4 with an RBI. Teammates Cody Grey and Doug Lewis each finished with one RBI. Braves gain first win of the season GATEHOUSE MEDIA CANASERAGA - Phil Wytrwa tripled, drove in two runs and went 2-for-4 to lead Bradford to a 7-5 win over Canaseraga Wednesday, April 23, for the Braves' first victory of the season. Bradford's Steve Ellison knocked in a pair of runs and went 2-for-4, while teammate Mitchell Kelly was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. H-port gains 5-4 win over C-G GATEHOUSE MEDIA HAMMONDSPORT - Anna Mishrell's RBI infield single in the bottom of the ninth lifted Hammondsport to a wild 5-4 win over Canisteo-Greenwood Wednesday, April 23. The Lakers rallied for two runs in the seventh to send the game to extra innings and then were forced to overcome a 4-2 deficit in the ninth. Kelly Clemens and Ashley Travis led off the ninth with back-to-back singles and eventually scored to tie the game, which set the stage for Mishrell's heroics. Audrey Shippee had another strong outing pitching as she finished with seven strikeouts and one walk to earn the win. Kelly Walling, Taylor Wade, Travis and Shippee each went 2-for-5 for Hammondsport (3- 3). Bradford girls gain first win of the season GATEHOUSE MEDIA CANASERAGA - Bradford picked up its first win of the season after scoring at least one run in four out of seven innings to earn a 6-0 shutout over Canaseraga Wednesday, April 23. Autumn Stone picked up the win by striking out seven and only walking one hitter for the complete game shutout. Teri McGettigan supplied the offense with a solo home run, while Mallory Storelli knocked in one RBI for the Braves. "It felt good to get our first win under our belts," said Bradford coach Larry Dykes. "It's a good way to start after spring break and hopefully we can get on a roll." Stone also helped out at the plate, going 2-for-4, while Courtney Sutryk had a 2-for-3 day at the dish. Moore leads bath to a 19-stroke victory GATEHOUSE MEDIA CONESUS - Jonathan Moore fired a 43 Wednesday, April 23, to capture medalist honors and lead Bath Haverling to a 19-stroke victory against Wayland- Cohocton at Conesus Golf Club. Brett Santacroce carded a 44 for the Rams, while teammates Taylor Parsons and Seth Skelly each shot a 45. H'port tennis gains 3-2 victory over Addison GATEHOUSE MEDIA HAMMMONDSPORT - Hammondsport used a sweep of doubles competition to take a 3-2 win over Addison Wednesday, April 23. Chris Haluszczak won a three-set match at first singles over Addison's Dan Carr, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Peter Woods and Josh Malone followed it up with two-set wins at second and third singles to complete the sweep. Baroody leads H-port to sixth win of season GATEHOUSE MEDIA CANISTEO - Derek Baroody pitched five hitless innings, fanned seven and walked three to lead Hammondsport its sixth win of the season. Justyn Schuck went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base for the Lakers (6-1, 5-0), while Luke Fairbrother double, tripled and drove in three runs. Bath earns 21-1 victory over Watkins Glen GATEHOUSE MEDIA BATH - Bath Haverling followed up Wednesday's offensive onslaught over Hornell with 19 more hits against Watkins Glen Thursday, April 24, to earn a 21-1 victory. Brett Havens led Bath (7-1) with a perfect 4-for-4 day from the plate, roping a double and knocking in three runs. Mike Rossi belted a triple during his 4-for-5 afternoon, which included a game-high four RBI. Matt Whedbee,Carl VanAmburg, Mike Smith and Brad York all pitched in with two RBI apiece. VanAmburg added to his offensive showing with seven strong innings on the mound to earn his first win of the season. Zach Landon picked up the lone RBI for Watkins Glen (2-5) in the top of the first inning. C-S defeats Avoca 3-2 GATEHOUSE MEDIA CAMPBELL - Campbell- Savona's sweep of doubles play led to a 3-2 victory over Avoca Wednesday, April 23. Kyle Palmer and Logan Orlando won in three sets at first doubles, while teammates Coady Parks and Dan Herman took second doubles in two sets. Kyle Knowles won the decisive match at third singles by the score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, to help earn the win. Micah Fish-Gertz was victorious at first singles for Avoca, while Kent Clifter got the win at second singles. HFLgains 205-228 win against Bath GATEHOUSE MEDIA LIMA Mike Madigan and Josh Rolands of Honeoye Falls-Lima took advantage of the sunny day and shot a pair of 38s to pace the Cougars to a 205-228 win over Bath Haverling Thursday, April 24; at Island Oak's Golf Course.
