Friends, family say goodbye to 'Bud' Robinson

BATH - The Bath police lost one of their own last Saturday.

Donald "Bud" B. Robinson Jr., 59, a part-time police officer and dispatcher with the Bath police department, died Saturday as his mother's 80th birthday party ended.

Robinson had worked at the Bath police department since 1998. He was a retired state trooper, having worked with the state police from 1974 through 1994. He also spent a considerable amount of time downstate as a narcotics investigator.

"Bud leaves a void that will be impossible to fill," Bath Police Chief David K. Rouse said Sunday in a press release. "His dedication, experience, work ethic and perseverance was second to none. Bud's peers will always hold him in the highest regard and remember him as a compassionate man who dedicated his life to public service."

In addition to his career in law enforcement, Robinson was an Army veteran, serving in Vietnam with the U.S. Army 25th Infantry.

He also served as the commander of the Steuben County Veteran s' Memorial (VFW Post 1470) from 1997 to 2002.

Survivors include his wife Judy Robinson, of Wayne; a daughter, Kelly Wilson; a son, Michael Robinson; his parents, Donald and Josephine Robinson, of Bath, and a sister, Shirley Jessup of Himrod.

A funeral service was to be held Saturday at the Bath Presbyterian Church following calling hours at the church.
