Bath comprehensive plan ready for review BATH - More than two years of study on the part of an ad hoc land use committee will culminate May 8 with a public hearing at 7 p.m. in the Haverling High School cafeteria. The hearing will provide members of the public with an opportunity to offer their own comments on a draft comprehensive plan designed to guide future development in the Town of Bath. Copies of the plan are available for public inspection in the Bath town clerk's office, the Dormann Library and the Savona Library. The plan also has been posted on the Steuben County website and can be viewed at http://steubencony.org/planning/ technical.html. Town Supervisor Fred Muller in a prepared press release noted the town board gave committee members parameters for development of the plan but allowed them to choose areas on which to focus. Amy Dlugos of the Steuben County Planning Department provided technical assistance to the committee throughout the process. "The result is a comprehensive plan which addresses practically every issue," Muller said. The committee's plan was submitted to the town board late last year, and town officials subsequently met with selected committee members to review the preliminary document. That phase of the project resulted in the removal of specific recommendations drawn up by the ad hoc committee, which may become an issue at the May 8 public hearing. Following the hearing, town board members will review the comments and decide whether additional changes are necessary, according to town councilwoman Robin Lattimer, who added the board will be responsible for proposing specific local laws based on land use regulations. Lattimer said the plan could be in place for the next 20 to 30 years. |
