Mable L. Chalmers Barnes BATH - Mable L. Chalmers Barnes, age 88, of Williamson Terrace and formerly of 2 Shannon Street, Bath, died Sunday, April 27, at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath. She was born Oct. 23, 1919 in Branchport, the daughter of Eugene and Ethel Habberfield Fingar. She was retired from Taylor Winery of Hammondsport. Mabel was a member of the Charles E. Wescott American Legion Post 173 Auxiliary and the Centenary United Methodist Church of Bath. She volunteered at the Bath V.A.M.C. for over 20 years and was the Volunteer of the Year in 2004. The family expresses many thanks to the people of the Steuben County Health Care Facility for the loving care Mabel received. She is survived by two sons, Donald (Colleen) Chalmers of Bath and Robert (Judith) Chalmers of Gunnersville, Alabama; one daughter, Barbara Jean Holmes of Hickory, North Carolina; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Robert N. Chalmers; second husband, Wilson O. Barnes; and her grandson Mark Holmes. Friends called on Wednesday, April 30 from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath, funeral services followed at 8 p.m. with the Reverend Jeff McDowell officiating. Burial was held at in Lakeview Cemetery, Penn Yan. |
