Animal cruelty convict deserves the max To the editor , I was reading in the paper that Jake Hoffman was found guilty of felony aggravated animal cruelty for beating a dog to death and then mutilating it's body. The defense claimed that he was too drunk to know what he was doing. That is the most idiotic statement I've heard in a long time. How many people in the world today get too drunk and do something wrong including: murder , rape , robbery , etc... Should they all get a pass because they were too drunk to know what they were doing too? Jake Hoffman knew exactly what he was doing. He was performing disgusting acts of a twisted mind. How anyone could even think of doing something so heinous is beyond me.
I can only hope that when it comes time for sentencing, he gets the maximum sentence, which is not nearly enough. It's time to make an example of people like this and let them know that these cruel and intolerable acts will not be taken lightly. I hope that someday the animal cruelty laws get even more strict so people like this can't prey on defenseless animals everytime they've gotten too drunk. Enjoy state prison. It's definitely where you belong. |
