Wager has right qualities for BOE member To the Editor, Tuesday, May 20, will decide two important issues facing our school. We will vote on the annual school budget and for a new board member. The annual budget meets the needs of our year-to-year costs of running the school. At a 2 percent increase from last year, this budget shows that the Board of Education is aware of our economic pinch and has tried to lower the impact to an acceptable level. We should vote yes for this budget. The qualities that a candidate for the BOE should possess must include a high interest in the education of all our children, should be accessible to the parent's questions and suggestions and should show that she has the skills and personality to work with the Board and the many areas of concern to our district voters. Donnette Wager appears to me to have the qualities to make an excellent member of our Board of Education. With her own children attending Haverling, she has close contact with the activities at school. Donnette has attended the BOE meetings for the last several years with the idea of running for a seat on the board. Her intention to the school in all phases, proves to me, she has had a long-term interest in our school. Donnette also has a strong background in finances which should prove to be an asset to the BOE. I read with dismay about "noseynewsy." What is this nonsense? What about the "Save the Lyon?" Our school has been forced to counteract several costly legal battles that the "Save the Lyon" committee has forced upon it. And this committee has yet to win any of these suits against the school. Talk about wasting taxpayer's money. I have no objections to the cause of saving the Dana Lyon school and I hope they beat the powers that send us to many dollar stores and drug stores. But it should not be taking up so much time and money from the business of the school. I plan to vote for Donnette Wager. I value in-depth discussions and agreement on what is important and proper for our school and our taxpayers. Eileen Burg Bath |
