Sophomore to represent New York State at the National Leadership Conference
Sophomore Josh Snyder recently learned from the New York State High School Athletic Association that he has been selected to represent New York State at the National Leadership Conference in Indianapolis, Indiana from July 17-20. Josh is one of only six student athletes selected from New York State to attend this all-expenses paid leadership conference.
The National Student Leadership Conference provides a forum for student and adult leaders to discuss contemporary issues facing education based athletics and activities. Through interactive, large and small group discussions, these leaders will learn to promote respect, positive values, sportsmanship, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, community service and perspective. College facilitators will deliver the curriculum and lead the delegates in their breakout group discussions. In addition, they will participate in a citywide community service project that will benefit the Indianapolis metropolitan community.
Josh was given an application to fill out by his physical education teacher which consisted of two essay questions. In addition, applicants must be in tenth or eleventh grade, demonstrate excellence in athletics and academics, and demonstrate leadership through school and community activities. Applicants must also agree to take the information and skills they learn at the conference back to their school and communities to disseminate to others.
Josh participates in soccer, wrestling, baseball, Student Council, and Academic All-Stars. He is also Class President, a high honor roll student, and was recently selected as Student of the Quarter.
