Haverling brother and sister set new records in track BATH - Four school records, two invitational records, two MVP performances, one last name. And oh yeah, one combined school title. Andre McCloud and older sister Lakeshia McCloud each set school records Friday, May 9, and led the Bath Haverling track and field team to a combined (boys and girls) title at the 26-team Hornell Invitational. Although the Rams finished second among boys teams, and fourth in the girls team competition, the Bath boys and girls combined for an overall firstplace showing, three points better than second-place Hornell. Andre McCloud set both school and Hornell Invitational records by placing first in the 100 meters (10.6 seconds) and 200 meters (21.8). His time in the 100 broke a 23-year old invitational record. Friday, May 9, was the 45th running of the Hornell Invitational. Andre McCloud also was victorious in the long jump (21-feet, 1-inch) and helped Bath's 400 relay team to a second-place finish in 44.6 seconds. Andre McCloud was the easy choice as the boys invitational's MVP. Lakeshia McCloud - the girls invitational's MVP - set school records in the long jump (17-feet, 2-inches) and triple jump (37-3) by placing first in each event. Lakeshia McCloud also helped Bath to a secondplace showing in the 400 relay (52.6) and a sixthplace finish in the 1,600 relay (4:18.4). "It was an outstanding performance by both Andre and Lakeshia," Bath coach Matt Hill said. "Lakeshia had been struggling and she had a couple of outstanding jumps and she's back on the right track. Andre has had an outstanding season and competing against 26 teams, he brought out his best . He was just fun to watch." Bath's boys team got second-place finishes from the 3,200 relay team of Sean Ainsworth, Darren Snyder, Nick Badeau and Garrison Koehler in 8:36.0, along with the 400 relay team of Kirt Martin, McCloud, Jordan Nichols and Brian Vonderlin. Bath's Derek Snyder was third in the 3,200 meters (10:06) and Ain sworth was third in the 800 (2:03.6). The Rams got a fourth-place finish from the 1,600 relay team of Martin, Vonderlin, Franklin Koehler and John Smith (3:36). Fifth-place finishes for Bath were Derek Snyder (1,600) and Garrison Koehler (pole vault), while Darren Snyder and Nichols took sixth in the pole vault and 100 meters, respectively. Joining Lakeshia McCloud on Bath's secondplace 400 relay team were Brittany Havens, Brittany Jones and Megan Russell. Russell and Emily Johns placed third in the long jump (15-4) and high jump (5-feet), respectively. Russell was fourth in the 100 meters and the 1,600 relay team of Havens, McCloud, Ashley Russell and Johns finished fifth. "It was a complete team effort," Hill said. "A lot of kids pulled through for us." |
