Mary Sutryk Saxe

BIG FLATS - Mary Sutryk Saxe, age 81, of 36 Orchard Drive, Big Flats, formerly of Bath and Horseheads, passed away on Sunday, May 25, at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center.

Mary was born February 28, 1927 in the Town of Bradford, the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Wzalik Sutryk. She was a graduate of Savona High School Class of 1945. Mary married her husband, Robert Walter Saxe, on January 17, 1953 and he pre-deceased her on April 21, 2003 after 50 years of marriage. She and Robert had lived in Bath for over 40 years.

She was also pre-deceased by her five brothers John, Cashmire, Anthony, Theodore, and Charles Sutryk.

Mary was a retired telephone operator for New York Telephone/Verizon in Bath and Corning, with over 30 years of dedicated service. She was a devout Catholic praying The Rosary and attending St. Mary Our MotherChurch in Horseheads. Mary loved her family and friends and cherished the time spent with them especially her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Saxe is survived by her loving and devoted children, James T. and Sharon Saxe of Big Flats, Barbara A. Waskuvich of Horseheads and Peter and Adele Saxe of Deltona, Florida; five grandchildren, Robert Wassel, Michael Saxe, Amber Saxe White and Charles White, Jaime Saxe and Theresa Waskuvich; seven greatgrandchildren, Robby Wassel, Connor Wassel, Alexandra Saxe, Kristofer Saxe, Mi chael Saxe, Benjamin Saxe and Cameron White; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of caring friends.

Relatives and friends called at the Lynch Funeral Home, 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, on Wednesday, May 28, from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Basil's Church in Dushore, Pennsylvania on Thursday, May 29, at 1 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Robert in St. Basil's Cemetery in Dushore, Pennsylvania.

Flowers are acceptable or those wishing may remember Mrs. Saxe through memorials to The Big Flats Volunteer Fire Department Maple Street & Palmer Road Big Flats, NY 14814, Meals on Wheels of Chemung County 150 Fox Street Elmira, NY 14901, or The Southern Tier Association for The Visually Impaired 719 Lake Street Elmira, NY 14901.
