Bath boys track claims 1st title

WATERLOO - For the first time in the history of the program, the Bath Haverling boys track and field team can call thems elves sectional champions.

Bath placed first overall among 15 teams Friday, May 30, at the Section V, Class B championships with 158.5 points. Geneva was a distant second with 87 points.

Leading the way for the Rams wa s Andre McCloud, who placed first in four individual events. McCloud won the 100 meters in 10.98 seconds and placed first in the 200 (22.49). He also grabbed first-place finishes in the long jump (21-feet, 7-inches) and triple jump (44-2).

The Rams boasted a total of eight top finishes as Darren Snyder, Derek Snyder and Sean Ainsworth were each double-winners.

Darren Snyder won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, Derek Snyder placed first in the steeplechase in 10:02.88 and Ainsworth prevailed in the 1,600 meters in 4:31.32.

Bath got second-place finishes from Garrison Koehler in the pole vault (11-6), Tyree McCloud in the pentathlon (2,459 points) and the 1,600 relay team of Kirt Martin, Fran k Koehler, John Smith and Brian Vonderlin (3:34.92).

The Rams got thirdplace showings from Ryan Ainsworth in the 110 hurdles (16.64 seconds) and Darren Snyder in the steeplechase (10:33.47).

Bath's girls team finished third at sectionals with 64 points, while Wayland-Cohocton won the team girls competition with 138 points.

Leading the way for the Bath girls team was Lakeshia McCloud, who placed first in the long jump (16-feet, 9.5-inches) and triple jump (37-1.5). The Rams also got a firstplace finish from Megan Russell in the pentathlon (2,372 points).

Bath's Emily Johns was second in the high jump (5-feet) and the 1,600 relay team of Lakeshia McCloud, Ashley Russell, Brittany Havens and Emily Johns set a new school record with a time of 4:14.86, which was good enough for second.

McCloud, Ha vens, Ashley Russell and Brittani Jones took third in the 400 relay in 52.62 seconds.

All of Bath's first-place finishers were guaranteed a spot at state qualifers Friday at Marion High School.
