Did you know that education in Kenya is not free, as it is in this country? After grade school preparation, children can continue their education only if they can afford boarding school. The Anglican Church has some boarding schools, but it still costs around $600 per child per year. Needless to say, very few children from Kisima can attend. The people of the

Church of Kisima pool their +

resources to send their brightest children to these schools.

Only a few children will be given this opportunity and it is a great honor to be chosen. Rev. Curtis has talked with the Vestry and proposed that one of the church's next mission projects be joining the people of the Church of Kisima to help with their education program. Members who would like to help with this mission, please make your check payable to St. James and mark the memo Kisima Education Project.

• First United Methodist Church: The Rev. Paul Rowley, Minister: 8:30 a.m. Service: 9:45-10:45 a.m., Sunday school; 11 a.m. Service. On the 5th Sunday of the month, the two services are combined with a 10 a.m. service for all.

This year the church celebrates Father's Day on June 15. The first modern celebration of Father's Day was held on July 5, 1908, in Fairmont, West Virginia. It was celebrated as a church service at Williams Memorial Methodist- Episcopal Church, now known as Central United Methodist Church. It is believed that the service was first held to honor fathers after a deadly mine explosion in nearby Monongah the prior December. Another possible inspiration could have been the Mother's Day service celebrated for the first time two months prior in Grafton, West Virginia, fifteen miles from Fairmont.

Our Mississippi Mission Team bottle-can collection is going to continue. The funds will be used for different mission projects as needed. Everyone is encouraged to keep the collection containers filled. Collection barrels are located in the front foyer and in the Fellowship Hall. Thanks to all who have contributed.
